the warden and shriekers are not generating the darkness effect.
to replicate
go to hidden city
set off shriekers
spawn in warden
expected - darkness when shriekers are set off and also when close to warden
result - zero darkness.
I have attached a screenshot of me next to a warden, and you can see that the darkness effect is not there (although the city is obviously quite dark). The same occurs with the shriekers - zero pulsating darkness.
I am in creative but i have also checked it in survival and zero darkness.

asked another player who was on my realm with me on xbox if the effect was working for them also and if is not.

Are you using any add-ons or resource packs? If so, could you provide a complete list of them?
Did this issue occur on a LAN or on a multiplayer server?
Could you try performing the issue on a flat world?

i’ll get you some of this this weekend - but it’s happening in regular vanilla worlds without any addons locally as well as on my realm (which does have addons but given it’s happening in my local un modded world it’s obviously not the addons)
here is a video - there are addons in the world i was in when i took the videohowever exactly the same thing happens no matter what world i am in addons or no addons.
