Render distance stuck at lowest setting in nether/underwater

As of the 26.30 update, the render distance setting has no effect on actual render distance underwater and in the nether.

  • Overworld and End are unaffected; render distance setting functions as expected

  • Bug is consistent across graphics settings, including simple, fancy, and vibrant visuals

  • Bug is present across offline play and dedicated server

In the attached screenshots, my render distance is set to 28. No matter what I set it to, across various graphics settings configurations, the actual in-game render distance remains stuck at 5 in the nether and underwater. The above-water, overworld render distance functions as expected.

On further testing, this appears to be a limitation of default resource packs. I tested with two non-vanilla resource packs – DefinedPBR (RTX) and Prizma (vibrant visuals) – and activating either pack causes the render distance to function correctly again. (the nether_prizma screenshot shows this.)

This is not new behavior. For the Nether, this is working as intended per MCPE-36911. For underwater, this is currently being tracked at MCPE-119745.
