lava freezing mid flow

Cannot Reproduce

lava froze mid flow in survival when i used the seed "nyan". not sure if its the seed or not but yeah...

Also observed happening to water..
Blocks placed on anyside of 'flowing' block do not update flow,
Replacing 'flowing' block with any solid then removing allows flow from original source block
