Daylight Detector behaves incorrectly underwater during daytime

Short description of the issue

When a Daylight Detector is placed underwater, it does not behave correctly during daytime. The detector remains powered continuously regardless of whether it is set to normal or inverted mode.

At nighttime, the detector behaves as expected and correctly updates its output.

Steps to reproduce the issue

  1. During daytime, place a Daylight Detector underwater.

  2. Connect the Daylight Detector to a redstone component (for example, a Redstone Lamp);

  3. Observe that the detector remains powered continuously;

  4. Toggle the detector to inverted mode and observe that the behavior does not change;

  5. Wait until nighttime and observe that the detector starts behaving correctly.

Expected result

The Daylight Detector should update its redstone output based on the current light level and time of day, regardless of whether it is placed underwater or on land.

Actual result

When placed underwater, the Daylight Detector fails to update correctly during daytime, while it updates as expected during nighttime.

May be behaving as expected, as the light level decreases with depth, so the signal strength when inverted may be a small non-zero value. You can test this by connecting a redstone line to the daylight detector, or using a comparator and trying different side inputs.

Hi @Memttm , thank you for your reply.

At first, I thought this behavior might be caused by insufficient light. However, if that were the case, why is the Minecraft Daylight Detector always powered during the daytime?

If it isn't receiving enough light, I would expect it to be off in normal mode and on in inverted mode, just as it behaves at night.

However, as shown in both the description and the video, the Daylight Detector remains powered during the daytime regardless of whether it is in normal or inverted mode.

As a secondary point, while I understand that light levels decrease with depth, the Daylight Detector still does not function correctly even when there is only a single water block above it.
