Cannot kick or use commands on players with double quotation marks in name

If a Nintendo Switch player includes a double quotation mark (“) in their username, they become invulnerable to virtually any command, in any world, including the kick command. The only exceptions are commands using selectors like @r or @n.

This issue affects any world with multiplayer enabled, no matter the platform. But only Nintendo Switch players can do this as far as I am aware. This does not affect Realms or Servers as Nintendo Switch player names are not used there.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. On Nintendo Switch, go into your Profile

  2. Change your name to include a double quotation mark (“)

  3. Save the name and open Minecraft for Nintendo Switch (NOT Minecraft Nintendo Switch Edition)

  4. Most commands will now not work on you

Expected Result:

  • When I attempt to run kick user", the game should kick out the user

Actual Result:

  • The game throws a syntax error (even though I typed the command as intended) and the user is not kicked out of the world when I run the command.

Comments 1

kick user" is intentional as I am trying to kick a player named user”, with a double quotation mark (“).
