Armour trims don't appear on armour

When you put a trim on armour with any material, it won't show up on the armour stand in the smithing table UI. And when you put the armour on, the trim won't appear and gaps where the trim should be appear instead.

The image below shows an armour trim not working, the example trim is sentry, but it effects all trims.
