Terracotta error using nethernet for 3 rd party servers using gayser

Minecraft Bedrock – External NetherNet Server Connection Problems Across Consoles and Mobile Devices

Title: Bedrock players on iOS, Android and consoles experiencing connection failures when joining external NetherNet servers

Description

I am experiencing an issue where Minecraft Bedrock players cannot reliably connect to my external Minecraft server using Geyser and NetherNet.

The server works correctly for Java Edition and Windows Bedrock players. However, players using other Bedrock platforms, including iOS, Android, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, may experience connection failures.

On iPad, the errors include:

  • Terracotta connection error.

  • Initial Connection -149.

The server console shows the player attempting to log in, but Geyser eventually disconnects the Bedrock client because of a timeout.

Platforms potentially affected

  • iPhone

  • iPad

  • Android phones and tablets

  • Xbox One

  • Xbox Series X/S

  • PlayStation 4

  • PlayStation 5

  • Nintendo Switch

  • Other Bedrock-compatible devices

I have personally tested iPad and Windows Bedrock. I have not independently confirmed the issue on every platform listed above.

Test environment

  • Server software: Paper

  • Cross-play software: Geyser-Spigot and Floodgate

  • Connection system: NetherNet

  • Geyser signalling mode: Hybrid (built-in signalling and NXS)

  • iPad Minecraft version: Bedrock 26.60

  • iPadOS version: 27.0.1

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open Minecraft Bedrock on a supported device.

  2. Navigate to the Servers tab.

  3. Add or select an external server.

  4. Enter the server address and port.

  5. Attempt to connect.

  6. Observe whether the connection fails.

Expected behaviour

Bedrock players across supported platforms should be able to connect to external NetherNet servers, including third-party Java servers using Geyser.

Actual behaviour

Some Bedrock platforms appear to experience connection failures, while Windows Bedrock and Java Edition can connect successfully to the same server.

Troubleshooting already performed

  • Tested Windows Bedrock successfully.

  • Confirmed the iPad can connect to The Hive.

  • Confirmed the server’s Bedrock port is configured for TCP and UDP.

  • Tested Geyser Hybrid signalling.

  • Tested NXS assisted joins.

  • Enabled NetherNet debug logging.

  • Updated Geyser.

  • Confirmed the iPad issue persists.

Request to Mojang

Could Mojang investigate whether there is a NetherNet connection or external server signalling issue affecting Bedrock clients across iOS, Android and console platforms?

This is particularly important for players joining third-party Java servers through Geyser, as cross-platform access is an important part of Minecraft multiplayer.

Please investigate whether this is a known issue and whether a fix is planned.
