When zooming out a map (regular or locator) using the recipe with the map in the center surrounded by 8 pieces of paper, it scales perfectly fine from 0/4 to 3/4. However, when zooming from 3/4 to 4/4 the map zooms out incorrectly to a blank map with the locator of the player position way off the edge somewhere. Also, the default coordinates that determine the center of a zoomed out map created in the beta are different from existing maps that were created when playing in a world that was created before the beta, making them difficult to line up/match edges in frames with already existing maps.
