Minecarts half as fast as console edition

I just got the free bedrock edition of Minecraft and converted a map from the console version. It contains a very long section of track connecting my main castle to a village far away. The track is built of regular rails with powered rails every 8 blocks, or more powered rails if there's an incline or a curve. The rails are powered by redstone torches placed directly beside them on the track.

I timed how long it took to travel from my castle to the village on the console edition, and it took somewhere around two and a half minutes. When I rode the track in the new bedrock edition, it was noticeably slower, so I timed it again. In the bedrock version, the same journey over the same track takes approx. 5 minutes. This is twice as long as before. Either the bedrock edition is too slow, or the console edition was way too fast.

Its actually the console edition that was in the wrong in respects to minecarts. Minecarts were slowed down quite a few versions ago in the PC (Java version) to reduce lag, and increase rendering performance. The code eventually made its way to the console version, and for a short period of time minecarts were also much slower in the console version. Roller coaster builders complained to 4J, whom in turn bumped the speed back. In the process it broke many things, made the game more laggy, and they did not render correctly.

I for one am glad that minecarts are slower, which means they should be stable to use for large scale projects once again.
