Redstone torch not powering dust and crashing game

Sometimes, Redstone torches do not power blocks and dust next to them, even if the torches are turned on. This affects me on my realm (both on Win 10 and Xbox 1) as when I try to use any piston door with Redstone torches, the game occasionally crashes - especially if the chunk is freshly loaded, by exiting the nether usually and no block updates have occurred yet. I found this bug by looking at some exposed Redstone, and noticing that the Redstone dust was inactive.
