I was playing on a realm and when I went thru a nether portal I started losing health during the transition, I ended up dying from suffocation and lost all my stuff, this happened to my friend too.

I do not believe this is the same issue as MCPE-28765
MCPE-28765 seems to refer to spawning into the nether portal frame.
I posted my comments in that thread as this one was linked and closed. This is not just taking a half heart of damage. This is dying at the coordinates you enter a portal in the dimension you are going to. Lets say you enter a portal in the nether at 12 50 20, you suffocate in the ground in the over-world at the same coordinates.
I tested this out by heading to the the x,z coordinates on the over-world that the portal was at in the nether and found my inventory in a clump on the surface.
