It won't let me change my skin without leaving and reopening the game.

I play on Minecraft PE and whenever I try to change my skin, in a world or out, I choose the skin and it goes to the Minecraft loading screen and then it shows the skin I already have on and asks me what model (Steve or Alex) I want. The only time it will change skins is when I leave and re-open the game.
