Collected items in my Realms world, exited to menu and returned to the game and full inventory was deleted.

Strange,this was supposed to be fixed in the 0.7 update

This is actually very consistent, happens to everyone on the server every time they log out, manually or accidentally by crash.

Fixed since 0.7.4, tested on an iPod Touch 5g with my realm World(all my stuff were saved without problems), my IGN is LuisRobles16
