I created a nether portal, and upon return, a new portal was created about 60 blocks away from my created gate! Both send me to the same portal in the nether, but on return I only come back to the duplicate created portal.

I just noticed this problem myself. I created my first nether portal at coordinates 948, 71, -218. I went through, found that the portal spawned right over some lava, decided to leave and try to build somewhere else, and when I exited the nether a new portal was created at coordinates 815, 63, -83. I tried deactivating my portal and trying again with a copy of my world and the same thing happened.

This happens to me about 1 out of every 4 attempts coming back to the over world on 1.13.1 windows 10. The workaround I've fond is to re light the nether side portal from the bottom.

Thank you for your report!

The portals in the over world work slightly different then the ones in the nether. try this until it works-
Go to the nether with nothing
deactivate the portal
die
go through the portal in the overwold to create a new one
