Lava in Ocean Glitch

I was flying around minecraft pocket edition and wanted to place lava in the ocean (I don't know why) thinking it would instantly turn into obsidian.

Then the lava glitched for a minute before turning into obsidian.

I was online with my sister.

This also happens with cobble generating when lava streams touch water
