When I try to copy my world I receive an error message that says "Failed to copy your world". I have plenty of space on my ipad, so it's not a storage issue. Larger worlds still copy fine. Restarting the device didn't help either.

I too have this issue. I am on 1.12.0 with an honor 10 lite. For some reason, I cannot copy my survival world, and I have well enough space. I really hope this gets fixed, because if I lose the world, I will cry. I have put so many hours on it and it's unfair that ANYONE loses their world because of this bug.
I’ve tried your method of going to the nether but didn’t work for me? Can you explain how you did it or possible another way please?
I have this issue too and also made a report on it. I’m so glad I’m not the only one dealing with this same problem. I really would love to use structure blocks, but in order for me to use them I need experimental gameplay on. I can’t copy the world and I have no idea why. Maybe it’s because my world is too old to copy. :/
Thank you for your report!

I was able to resolve this by going into the Nether and copying the world there. After that I was able to play in my original world and copy it as normal when I wanted.
(I noticed that the amount of space it took up kept changing slightly whenever I would restart the game trying to make this work. Sometimes it would say it took up more space, and sometimes less. I guessed maybe there was a problem loading the environment or something- maybe it happened when I’d gone into the Nether earlier today? - and thought maybe loading a different environment in-game might help it start loading things properly again. I have no idea if that’s actually what happened, but it seemed to work.)
