Double Chest remains closed under slab

After placing a double chest with a single halfslab in the lower position(directly above the chest) the chest won't open

What I expected to happen was...
The double chest would open and the gui would appear

What actually happened was...:
The double chest remained closed and the gui didn't appear

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Place 2 chests to create a double chest
2. Place any type of slab in the lower position directly above the double chest
3. Tap the double chest

Result
The double chest doesn't open and the gui doesn't appear
