What is the actual use of the options in game whereby we can use keyboard and mouse? But even according to the default controls binding for the keyboard it does not work? The only thing i am able to do with my keyboard is to type in chat. Is this a bug or there is only certain specific external Bluetooth keyboards that will work with MCPE?
If the default control bindings states that WASD are possible but i'm not able to look or walk around with my current bluetooth keyboard, i'm kind of sure this is a bug? Please kindly enlighten or advise if there is any actions being followed up or it is aware as an issue/bug. And not just simple put as resolved but iinvalid resolution or no solutions stated?
Looking forward to fixes / replies. Thanks

Please let this out from the back log onto your kanban boards please: it would be super awesome to get a near-PC like experience on iPads!

I also have an iPad with a Logitech keyboard, and I also can’t use Minecraft with my Logitech keyboard either.

I have bought $50 worth of stuff to play keyboard and mouse on my iPad. Now i am very disappointed knowing that i wasted all of it. Please fix this so that i did not waste my money. I cannot return it 🙁. This would be so useful!

Just to restate the obvious:
In the past iPadOS had relatively poor keyboard support and no mouse support. So then, it made sense that Minecraft did not try to support playing with a keyboard and touch screen
But now, iPadOS has excellent support for a mouse, trackpads, and keyboards, so it seems like it should be technically possible to use those for Minecraft. And it would be fun!
The app’s settings menu provides UI for configuring keyboard controls, but they don’t work. This confuses and disappoints.
Basically, it would be great if those controls started working!

This might be fixed in the Nether Update, since mouse support was only added recently, after the last major update (Buzzy Bees).

My $350 12.9 inch iPad Pro Smart Keyboard does not work either. As the game has a keyboard and mouse menu this is obviously a misleading feature. People with disabilities need mouse support to play. I am going to be forced to request AppStore chargeback on all purchases and realm subscriptions if this is not resolved soon.

So what I have been researching is that in the next iPadOS update they're going to add Keyboard and Mouse support for gaming. Hopefully they do that.

Thank you for your report!
However, this issue has been closed as Working as Intended.
If you need help or have a suggestion you might like to follow a link below.

📓 Issue Guidelines – 💬 Mojang Support – 📧 Suggestions – 📖 Minecraft Wiki

The current situation is clearly nobody’s definition of “works as intended”. It is misleading & untenable. Either remove the settings that mislead people into thinking keyboard controls should work or fix the keyboard controls.

This really needs to be prioritized. I just bought my new iPad with the magic keyboard that cost me alone ~ $400, and now it doesn't work. Mojang adds the options in the settings to add the keyboard and the game just doesn't react to any keystroke.
Therefore, can your product owner add this to the top of the backlog, because this is a major error.
I would like at least to have feedback on when is expected the developer teams to look into this. Is a lot of money all consumers are using for something that doesn't work.

Yeah I'm about to get an iPad and a bluetooth keyboard and mouse to play. hope mojang gets it fix.

It would be good if proper details were provided rather than just saying "It works as intended". Can I get any details on what that means? Every single issue that gets opened regarding this issue gets lumped into a "resolved" issue that was marked "Won't Fix" (which was last updated in late 2017, well before iOS Keyboard/Mouse updates). How is this working as intended but also a problem you won't fix?

I just got an iPad pro 11 inches(4th generation) with a magic keyboard(its also a bluetooth)and I bought it so I can play minecraft(Facetime, weather, instagram, etc)but only the mouse(touchpad)works if you press and hold it but the keyboard is useless...I'm very disappointed!!!

mojang should fix this problem, and apple is making it easier by allowing gaming with keyboard and mouse on ipad, coming with IPadOS 14, so now mojang should definitely work on this issue, since apple is helping out now

The fact that they didn’t even say something about this for years kinda upsets me. Since IOS 14 is out which enhances keyboard + mouse. Please: Give IOS players a chance in combat, because Android has this for a few years already!

Please reopen this, now that it is much easier in iPadOS 14

All the things I’ve seen keep saying this issue is resolved but I can not figure out why. I’ve tried every which way to make my keyboard work with Minecraft and it does not.

I’m having this issue too on my first gen iPad Pro. I tried both Apple Magic Keyboard 2 and Keychron K6 without success.

Having a Resolved status does not mean the issue was fixed, rather the particular ticket is not going to be looked at anymore. The resolution indicates why the ticket was resolved.

I have no success either. I’m using the newest iPad Pro of the current date as well. They need to reopen this or my post I reported this same day as this post.

My theory is this: The game was designed for a version of iOS that prohibits keyboard and mouse support (iPadOS 14 added the ability for developers to implement Keyboard and Mouse support) and so they never decided to implement it (but I don't know exactly, since I'm not a Mojang associate). However I did find a few threads on the Feedback website saying to add this feature to iPadOS (including some for Android), so this could possibly be implemented.

Not just IOS also Android

I have an iPad Pro with iOS 14, and it is really crummy that this doesn’t work. It is worse that Mojang does not contribute to the discussion to say why it doesn’t work (we are working on it, we are waiting for Apple to do X, we don’t want people to use the keyboard, or whatever is the case).

Can you please clarify what's working as intended? I have yet to see any keyboards do anything on iPadOS despite there being a whole raft of bindings available in settings. I've tried:
bluetooth keyboard (Logitech MX Keys)
magic keyboard
even a wired usb keyboard via a usb-c adapter
None of them do anything other than input into text chat. I've additionally tried "Full Keyboard Gameplay" on an extended keyboard with a numpad, still doesn't do anything.
What exactly are the keyboard/mouse settings supposed to before if none of them do anything?

Clearly does not ‘work as intended’ if I have bound the W key to forward movement within settings, and pressing the W key does nothing in-game. This is not a feature request, it is a bug - either keyboard settings need removed or keyboard control implemented.

Apple said they added gaming on keyboard and mouse for iPads
Link: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/10617/
Now Minecraft just needs to make keyboard and mouse supported

I believe that Minecraft doesn’t actually have keyboard and mouse support. I’m assuming they have the game ready for keyboard and mouse however there probably is some sort of back end wiring to do to get this feature to work. Keyboard and mouse functionality was only added a few months ago, and since Minecraft Bedrock is written in the Bedrock code base, using Swift’s native plugins may not work in terms of compatibility just yet. I’m sure there is something regarding this in the works, hopefully it will be complete some time soon.
If I’m incorrect please let me know.

I know this issue is closed as “works as intended” but please clarify exactly what that means in this context. I, like everyone else, can’t use a bluetooth keyboard with the game despite it having key bindings in its settings. This is clearly a bug. Remove the bindings options or fix them please. This is absurd.

This shouldn’t be closed/marked as resolved. When a keyboard and mouse are connected to the iPad it is not working as intended. This needs to be revisited.

This ticket is resolved as Works As Intended, which means the fact that keyboard and mouse controls don't work is not a bug.

So basically what I am gathering is that the lack of keyboard and mouse support on BE edition are AS DESIGNED, and there is no plans to integrate this. Well good thing I got good ol Java on my computer.

Technically, this "works" in that if you do have a keyboard/mouse connected to the iPad you can use the keyboard to type in chat and move the mouse and a cursor moves. I think the issue is there is a disconnect between the Mojang/developers and the community around the meaning of "works as intended". It seems like to Mojang/developers "works as intended" means you can use the keyboard to only type in chat and you can use the mouse to move a cursor that acts like a finger. To the community "works as intended" means if you move the mouse you move the camera/view and you use the keyboard to move (WASD) in addition to typing to chat (how it works in mostly all games).
Mojang, if you are going to take the literal title of this Jira and close it as "works as intended", is there another Jira to get the actual functionality out of kb/mouse/iPad setups the community wants?

John, if you have a read of the comments and look at the 2 screenshots I attached, the issue is that there are keyboard & mouse settings that show control options for movement, which can be bound to different keys. However the keyboard does not control movement in-game, therefore this is a bug (and quite misleading for the people who have purchased keyboards/mice based on these settings).

Hi Dan, I completely agree this is an issue and needs to be fixed. What I'm trying to do is understand why Mojang is so insistent on this not being an issue and why they think this "works as intended" when the community has issues with it.

It’s a shame that they didn’t want to give us a clear explanation about this smh

Any discrepancy between what appears in the settings and what occurs during gameplay should be considered a bug. If the plan is truly not to implement keyboard/mouse support to iOS, at least remove the Keyboard & Mouse section from the settings to avoid confusion.

I dont see why this is resolved, i bought a keyboard for my ipad on ebay and it doesnt work. They literally have a keyboard and mouse option in settings yet i couldnt even move. My mouse i bought Was fine though.

Mouse works great with looking around and punching things, keyboard that I bought to play Minecraft on my iPad Pro works with everything except Minecraft... However that is of course “works as intended”. These options I see in the game are clearly not for this keyboard😉 Who is playing on IOS with a keyboard anyways!

Missing 1.17.11. It’s not even Bluetooth keyboards too. Even the Magic Keyboard which comes with the iPad Pro 2-in-one setup and dosen’t use bluetooth dosen’t work. This is weird since the Windows 10 Surface Pro Tablet’s work with their keyboard, and it’s the same type of device.

There is no way this “works as intended.” The control scheme is plainly laid out in the settings menu. You can’t just have it there and not make it work. They need to tell us why this was labeled so, because this comes across so callously that it’s upset a number of their users.

I am a disabled player. I use an iPad because VoiceOver and VoiceControl are presently the best tools on the market for low vision and limited mobility. I enjoy playing games, and want to do it. But, I require physical accommodations to do so. It is an unavoidable fact of how my hands work (or don’t work).
This targeted choice to withhold core features like input devices is frankly user hostile, ableist, and totally against what Microsoft claims to stand for with their #A11y accessibility efforts.
If Jenny Lay-Flurrie or Bryce Johnson saw the above comments from a Microsoft employee about how they intentionally broke an accessibility feature and refuse to fix it, instead closing any ticket that references the bug as RESOLVED, I can’t begin to imagine the level of disgust they’d have towards the level of unprofessionalism.
Thanks for all of the helpful responses and extra information regarding this issue, and I'm sorry for the frustration regarding the matter. The resolution was made because of the limitations of the platform API when using additional input hardware which meant that Minecraft could not be fully controlled using a keyboard and mouse on all devices, and was therefore not a "bug" in that sense (You can find out more about the bug tracker and its resolutions here: aka.ms/MCBugTrackerHelp). However we can reopen this ticket for review to see if there have been any platform improvements that might help alleviate the issue you have mentioned, but please bear in mind that the limitations may still exist. Thank you for your patience and understanding in the matter.
In the meantime, you may also wish to follow this feature request that is found on the Minecraft feedback site, requesting additional control options on Android and iOS: https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/360009440492

📓 Issue Guidelines – 💬 Mojang Support – 📧 Suggestions – 📖 Minecraft Wiki

Thank you. I really appreciate you taking another look at this.
For what it’s worth, Apple has added full Keyboard and Mouse Support to iPadOS within iPadOS 13.4, whereas iOS 14 offered mouse support within games. iPhones too have Mouse support same as iPads and is available as an accessibility feature AssistiveTouch or the GCMouse and GCKeyboard APIs.
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210546
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/gamecontroller/gcmouse/

The update is much appreciated. Thank you for clarifying the original resolution for the topic. Hopefully Apple and other parties that may be involved have made appropriate provisions in the API to fully implement this control scheme. If not, I would hope that this topic is revisited (at least in brief) on a yearly basis with the new iOS/iPadOS releases.
Thank you!

It would be really much appreciated if you could look into this. I mean there is iOS mouse/keyboard api support since ios14 and we are having 15 right now. Other games have it too and we are kinda stuck to that horrible touch controls from 2014 or something😃
thank you !

Hi, I'm just going to remind you Apple has now implement mouse and keyboard support for the iPad, here is a link to their developer video on it: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/10617/

Missing 1.18

Missing v1.18.1

Can we at least know the time frame which this bug will be fixed (date/version)? If so that will be greatly appreciated.

Missing v1.18.2

I'd like to continue pushing this issue, as being able to play with mouse/keyboard was a primary use-case for me purchasing MCPE. Considering the developer implementation is now available, and that the menu item appears in the settings without any suggestion that it's not currently implemented, it would be great to see a fix pushed out as soon as it can.

@Kalani Helekunihi, would you be interested in attending an interview on the matter?

@Alessandro Mastroianni, yes, I am fine doing an interview. My previous reply with my email got removed. If you google my name, my website shows up as AM Guru and has my email listed on the About Me page. Twitter works too if you want to PM me.

Missing 1.18.2.

Can we have the estimated date for when this bug will be fixed? Thank you.

Now, in 27 of December in 2021, there isn't any solution to this problem. On the app in settings it has a mouse and keyboard option to play it. But when I connect the mouse and the keyboard it doesn't work. I can't walk. There are other games that has a great implementation of the mouse and keyboard. Why Minecraft supporters aren-t solving this problem? It will be great if there are this implementation.
I'm waiting for the answer

Affects 1.19.0.27 Preview (9th Gen iPad with Logitech Combo Touch)

Is this issue actively being solved or at least investigated? This is taking way too long.

For the sake of any developers looking into this issue, here’s the Apple-provided demonstration video on how to implement the GCKeyboard and GCMouse APIs into an iOS game: https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/10617/ they explain the process in about 15 minutes. After watching it for myself, it seems like just a few additional lines of code would quickly remedy this issue

I’ve been following this issue since I got my iPad Pro + Magic Keyboard in ~May 2020. I thought the reopening in October was a win but since then it’s been another 7-8 months of radio silence.

Microsoft again hosted their Ability Summit today, stating how important it is that teams employ empathy and think of the needs of those with disabilities, and how it is central to their business to intentionally and proactively include people with disabilities in the product-making process and strive to build products that are genuinely inclusive by design.
Included was an updated platform for adaptive inputs and how every Microsoft product will support said accessibility tools no matter how they are used.
https://blogs.microsoft.com/accessibility/increasing-our-focus-on-inclusive-technology/
Microsoft announced that they were updating the Xbox Accessibility Guidelines where consideration for accessibility needs is required for acceptance to the Xbox Store, especially Guideline 107 on Input: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/gaming/accessibility/xbox-accessibility-guidelines/107
Microsoft states that the use of Xbox Live Services requires compliance with the Xbox Accessibility Guidelines regardless of platform.
And Mojang is a Microsoft subsidiary.
So... Does Microsoft's assertion that every Microsoft product will support customizable input device accessibility extend to Minecraft?
Supporting physical input devices is not a nice to have. It is a fundamental requirement for those like me who are disabled. It would be really nice if I could just "get good", but my hands will not do the things your implementation of touchscreen controls demand.

It was working in Minecraft preview but it didn’t get added in the full 1.19 update.

Preview is on 1.19.10.21
Maybe they’re getting ready to bring it w/ the next update after 1.19

Preview works REALLY well. I’m impressed!
I tried to join the TestFlight a while back, but saw your post and got lucky with an open spot.
Excited to see this released publicly.

The game play with Keyboard works like charm(PREVIEW). I could found some problems with using command and chat.
When I press "/" or "T", the chat screen comes up. However the text input box will not gain focus automatically. So I had to press Enter key once again.
Even the hardware keyboard is using, the area for on-screen keyboard seems to be reserved sometimes.
When I press "Enter" key from chat text inputbox, sometimes the command or messsages are not commited, It just toggle the area for the on-screen keyboard.

I'm incredibly excited for this. I even set up some page monitoring to detect when spots were open on TestFlight to get added. Having done some play testing I'm super happy. I tested the following configurations so far with flawless results and wanted to report them here as kudos to whomever implemented it:
Magic Keyboard + Trackpad
"Universal Control" from a laptop nearby that seamlessly switches to and from the laptop and the ipad! (Can finally play bedrock "from" my apple laptop 😉 )
USB-C adapter plus wired keyboard and mouse
I couldn't be happier and am very excited for this to land on the main branch so I can use it with my realm.
I was initially confused by the "full keyboard access" setting which wasn't at all what I wanted but once I realized I could disable that to get the expected behavior I was fine.

Huh… Another release and the “normal” version still doesn’t support keyboard and mouse.
Preview works.

Latest update seems to have brought keyboard and mouse support to the real version! 🥳

With the 1.19.10 Keyboard an Mouse support work perfectly

ok. I think I'm running the right version.... and if I click and hold... I can look around with the mouse but the keyboard still doesn't seem to be working if I press WSAD. are there some changes in the configuration that need to be made first?
and shouldn't I NOT have to click and hold to look around?

It’s working on my end now after I update the app! Thank you, Team!

Works as of July 12, 2022 from the 1.19.10 release. So happy to have it!!!!! I almost wept with joy when it worked. Can finally truly take the PC-like Minecraft experience on the go—no laptop required!

@geek4hire625 (not sure if that works)
Make sure you don’t have “Full Keyboard Control” active and that your app is updated.
The keyboard and mouse control are working for me on 1.19.10, and I indeed do not need to hold down the left click. If I remember correctly that was the way the mouse used to work before the update.

Hey everyone,
I see this is currently reopened. I am using 1.19.11 on Android S20+ with keyboard and mouse connected via a Anker USB C hub.
The WASD and jump keys do not work, regardless of the Full Keyboard Control trigger. With this turned on and off, I can only move by using the Sneak (Ctrl) key. When I hold this down, and press any WASD key I move, but when I release the keys they keep moving. When I press ONLY the same WASD key, it stops moving.
As I said, this is the same no matter what position the Full Keyboard Control switch is in. Was this broken somehow in 19.11?
EDIT: the letter keys, including WASD, work when typing in the chat.
EDIT: Just noticed this is specific to iOS

It works for me on iPad

The game has many many bugs when it comes to using kbm on iPhone. It seems like it works on iPad, but on iPhone.
Menus cannot be used (including inventories, settings, the main menu, etc).
The chat seems broken (you cannot press Shift otherwise it stops typing in the chat box).
The mouse does not stay centered on the screen, instead the cursor flies all around (which can cause issues in certain parts. Issues include clicking while the mouse is in certain areas brings up the mobile controls, and pressing the bar at the bottom of the screen [used to close the app] it will close without warning).
After using your finger to craft or control menus (as you need to do), you have to press and drag your finger across the screen and click the mouse in order to move the camera by moving the mouse (it becomes unresponsive otherwise).

Totally agree with @YTFY in this issue however tho, I am having problems with the keyboard not the mouse. Use iPad

Just wanted to provide an update. My game is still recognising the keyboard and mouse fine. Keep in mind this is my experience and your mileage may vary.
One and two finger taps register as break and place. I don't have to click and hold to look around (this likely indicates you are on an old version without KB/M support)
Typing in search boxes/chat works so long as you wait for the little keyboard icon to appear in the bottom of the screen. This indicates the keyboard has switched to text input mode.
The inventory menu can't be navigated using the keyboard, but I don't know if you can even do that in the desktop version. When opening the inventory, my iPad's pointer becomes visible and I can use it to move items etc. Upon leaving the inventory, the pointer hides itself and mouse movement changes to controlling where the character looks.
For me, the bar at the bottom of the screen is greyed out, as it is in many other games. This means you need to pull up twice before the app will close, preventing accidental game closes.
The only issue is due to Apple not thinking an "Escape" key is necessary on an iPad, there is no way to get to the pause menu using the keyboard. I would like to be able to bind the menu to "Tilde" but "Open Pause Menu" does not exist in the keyboard mapping list.
I am using an iPad Pro running iPadOS 16.1 with a Magic Keyboard, and Minecraft version 1.19.40.
I'll have to connect my iPhone to a Bluetooth keyboard and see if the issues @Iloveminecraft88 mentioned occur my phone as well. (On the iPad they seem to be nonexistent)

Since 1.19.40 is now officially out, I want to write an update with the keyboard and mouse support.
Note: This only pertains to iPhone. As I do not have an iPad, I cannot test it on iPad, but from another recently added comment, it works much better on iPad. This is a report for the iPhone version.
At first inspection, there has been some improvement in 1.19.40. Menus and inventories still can’t be accessed, but now you do not have to turn on Split Controls in Touch Settings to see and use the crosshairs (previously, even though the crosshairs sometimes appeared, you could not place or break blocks without Split Controls turned on). There are other aspects of keyboard gameplay that I have not yet tested, but overall that seems to be the only improvement. As I mentioned before, the menus and inventory still cannot be used with the mouse. Also, the mouse cursor does not lock at the center of the screen or disappear as it should when in mouse mode. This results in accidentally closing the game when clicking on the home bar after looking down, and clicking at random parts of the screen will cause the touch controls to appear.
If i discover any other improvements or new bugs, i will make another comment for that.

Mouse has become unusable again after I updated to iPadOS 16 (whereas on iPadOS 15 everything worked perfectly with the same setup).
Once I open a menu or inventory in the game, the cursor gets switched to ”normal” mode (where you can actually move it around and click stuff), but then after I close the menu, the cursor fails to ever switch back to “camera” mode again.
That is — the cursor remains visible, and it’s not locked on the center of the screen. So when I look around, I see the dot at all times and if I move it all the way to a side, I can perform system gestures like home screen swipe or opening control center / notifications, making the game unplayable.
Edit: Below is a screen recording which shows the issue. Also the game version is 1.19.40.
[media]
The issue I described for 1.19.40 still applies for 1.19.41.
After entering a world for the first time, the mouse will control the camera normally, but as soon as a menu is opened (for example with the "esc" key), the mouse will never switch back to the gameplay mode anymore.
[media]
I am playing MCBE v1.19.50, on an iPad 9th Gen running iPadOS 16.1.1.
I am trying to play with the following KBM: Logitech K380 & Logitech Pebble.
It just won’t work!
The mouse goes haywire the moment I tap ESC. It won’t register clicks on the menu. Going back to the game only makes it worse. The pointer is no longer aligned with the crosshair and I have no control over it. Keyboard works somehow but when I open chat/command box I can’t type initially. Please fix this. I am used to KBM and bought MCBE hoping I could emulate the PC experience.

1.19.50 did not do anything for keyboard control on iPhone.
The mouse cursor still flies around the screen
the mobile controls sometimes appear for no reason.
the cursor does not work in menus, inventory, or really to click anything but blocks.
when you go out of the inventory after using your finger To move objects around, the camera stops responding to the mouse.
plus a load of other bugs.
please fix this Mojang

Also having the following issues:
1.19.50 on iPad Pro M1.
After pressing ESC all touch and mouse control is lost only arrow control works
continues after exiting the menu
The mouse cursor doesn't fade out to only crosshairs in game
The mouse cursor moves rapidly all over while cross hairs move slowly
Restarting the game sometimes fixes the issue
Pressing the home button and then re-entering the game sometimes fixes the issue

Still affects version 1.19.51 (on iPadOS 16.2)

the ios 16 update has screwed up the kbm stuff for ios mcpe. I have the exact problem SprNqsh has

An update for ipad pro users (with ZOOK finger pad)
The mouse works just fine. One and two finger taps register as break and place. I don't have to click and hold to look around. Also the three finger tap acts like the middle mouse button so i can copy blocks/stuff with nbt data.
The keyboard just doesn’t work. Minecraft registers it as a keyboard, but it doesn’t registers the key pressing. The chat sill works fine (just the TAB button fails for some reason).
Also the “PAUSE MENU” cannot be accessed via the keyboard. It unlocks the mouse and we can move it around freely now we need to reopen/ restart mcpe to fix this
Thats it.
Hopefully this bug gets fixed in the 1.19.60 or 1.20 update

Because of the ios 16 update my keyboard still works but my mouse wont work when open menu and it also wont work after open menu.

Updating to iOS & iPadOS 16.3 (which has come out today) does NOT fix the issue for me. The cursor still gets broken as soon as the "esc" button is pressed.

The newly released version 1.19.60 still does not fix the issue — mice are still unusable on iOS & iPadOS 16.3. This is getting kind of ridiculous…

Version 1.19.62 does not fix the issue (using iPadOS 16.3.1).

Issue is NOT FIXED as of 1.19.63.

Still affects 1.19.70.
[media]
Issues still persist. NO FIX as of 1.19.71.

Bug still persists after updating to iPadOS 16.4 (using the game version 1.19.71).

Another update which doesn't fix the iPad cursor lock bug (1.19.73).
It has been now 154 days since I first commented about this issue (October 29, 2022) no signs of activity or interest from the staff. Thanks team! /s

I believe if you go into settings, accessibility, keyboard, full keyboard access and turn it off it will work for you.

@WaxingGibbus83 — Well you'd be wrong. The "Full Keyboard gameplay" toggle has no effect on this bug. Plus, mine has always been disabled.
(By the way, I just tried updating the OS to 16.4.1, and lo and behold, the issue still isn't fixed!)

For some reason, they have it working in the Beta and Preview versions distributed through TestFlight, but not in the App Store version. This has been the case since June 2022, so there have been quite a few releases since then.

@Kalani — Would you mind sharing what your iOS / iPadOS version is?

Presently: iPadOS 16.4.1 with Minecraft Preview 1.20.0.20
However, previous TestFlight builds since June 2022 have worked regardless of iPadOS version. Any App Store builds have not worked.

NO FIX as of Minecraft V.1.19.81. This needs attention!

@Kalani, which mc versions r those? I use iPadOS Beta 16.5 and mcbe preview 1.20.22 still can’t get the controls going 😞

Not fixed in 1.19.83

The problem with the "esc" key still occurs in iPadOS 16.5 (using Minecraft 1.19.83).

Currently no fix for the “esc” issue in iPadOS 17 either (using Developer Beta 1 and Minecraft 1.20).
It seems like the fix will indeed need to come from Apple rather than Mojang. Since Mojang either can't fix this problem, or doesn't care.
For what it's worth, I reported this problem to Apple under the feedback number FB12272068.

Affects in 1.20.0 & 1.20.10.21 Preview

However, on my device(Magic Keyboard + iPad Pro + iPadOS 16.6 (20G5047d) + Minecraft 1.20.0/Preview 1.20.20.20), the keyboard doesn't work but the mouse works well.

Same here as TallAgenda where any of my keyboards can only type in chat but can’t move my character, but the mouse works fine.

This issue still affects version 1.20.12. Here's a video showcasing it on iOS/iPadOS 16.5.1 with Security Response C:
[media]The video has been downscaled to 720p because of the size limit as of uploading. Also the mouse cursor might just look like I have moved the cursor and not used the mouse to break blocks etc, but I have. And this issue needs more attention!

@mrjasonn, that is happening because you have AssistiveTouch enabled, try disabling it and that should fix it.

@Mr MC 392 disabling AssistiveTouch has fixed it, but this is still a bug. This bug report should be updated accordingly with the latest information.
If this is a problem Mojang can't fix or fixing things will break things even with complicated hacks (e.g. breaking the AssistiveTouch), then it probably is an issue with Apple.
Some of the videos attached also makes the cursor look broken, I don't understand those videos but after disabling the AssistiveTouch I have not seen the other cases of the broken issues.

Update: Issue still persists on iPadOS 16.6 even with Assistive Touch Disabled as suggested by friends here. Nothing changes. Mojang needs to work on this.

I think I might know the reason of why we are not able to use KnM on iOS and iPadOS devices. Recently, I was scrolling through the Roblox Dev Forums, and I found this post - https://devforum.roblox.com/t/native-keyboard-support-for-ipad/265045/13, this may be the real reason as to why KnM dosnt work on iOS or iPadOS

also, I found the following code snippet for W,A,S,D in case its a Mojang Problem (https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/10617/)(5:18 - Polling keyboard state)
func pollInput() {
if let keyboard = GCKeyboardDevice.coalesced?.keyboardInput
{ if (keyboard.button(forKeyCode: .keyW)?.isPressed ?? false)
{ /* move forward code */ }
if (keyboard.button(forKeyCode: .keyA)?.isPressed ?? false) { /* move left code */ }
if (keyboard.button(forKeyCode: .keyS)?.isPressed ?? false) { /* move backward code */ }
if (keyboard.button(forKeyCode: .keyD)?.isPressed ?? false) { /* move right code */ }
}
}

@Reyaansh_Mishra I believe there should be a mode in the coding where they can fix this. (related to the one with Roblox mentioned)

Issue still persists on iPad mini 6 running iPadOS 17.1.

Update: this is just a problem with a specific setting (on by default?) in AssistiveTouch

@mrjasonn how?? Can u pls explain?

Hey, there’s a temporary fix for this. When you connect mouse and keyboard, you can turn on Split controls in Touch settings. Although the cursor is seen when clicking, it won’t affect gameplay but the visuals only. I’m using iPadOS 17.1.1.

@WitherBoyMCW or you can disable 'perform touch gestures' within AssistiveTouch settings which will permanently fix it

As suggested by @Mr MC 392 I switched off “Perform Touch Gestures” even though my Assistive Touch is off. KBM is working with the exception of mouse pointer still being NOT fixed to the crosshair! Its workable for now but when it touches corners it brings up the dock or goes to the minecraft menu. Thank you buddy!
I’m playing on iPad 9 running iPadOS 17.1.2.

@SprNqsh because that is a different issue. The commenter I was replying to was referring to an issue related to AssistiveTouch where clicking activates touch controls

@WitherBoyMCW This is a good workaround for me as well.
I have observed that when the trackpad pointer becomes visible (without the workaround), the game starts to activate OS elements like the Dock. Even closing Minecraft will not fix the issue, once it begins to happen. I have seen full reboots fix the issue temporarily.
I think one thing that can introduce the issue if you haven’t seen it is to watch a video using Picture in Picture while playing Minecraft. When the video is playing, put the iPad to sleep (i.e., close the lid on the Magic Keyboard).
Once you come back, interacting with the video and Minecraft will probably lead to this pointer issue.

Still not working on 1.20.72. For iOS 17 users, I believe the mouse doesn't work at all unless you have AssistiveTouch enabled on iOS. I haven't been able to get it to work without Perform Touch Controls turned on otherwise.
This was addressed in a previous update. Any related bugs will need to be tracked separately, such as MCPE-165497 as an example.
