Since the update a few days ago, the hunger bar often refuses to refill. The eating animation plays, but food quantities don't go down and hunger doesn't refill. I found old bug notes from a year+ ago that sounded similar, but this is a new issue that didn't appear before the update. Restarting the device sometimes helps, and sometimes it will just go away on its own – it isn't a startup issue, but something that will randomly crop up after any duration of gameplay, seemingly unrelated to taking damage, sleep cycles, etc.

It does not – it's close, and possibly related, but my hunger bar does not fill at all (not even on a delay) and the food supply never goes down.

Ok. Please tell us something about the world or worlds affected. Single player or multiplayer? Does this only happen when playing over a network? Who is hosting the world if it's multiplayer, you or somebody else? Is it on Realms? A private server? How reliable is the communication channel between you, in your experience?
What I'm looking for is a communication problem, if it's a multiplayer world being hosted remotely. That's because the client (your device) can show the eating animation by itself, but the server (the remote device) keeps track of your inventory. When you eat, the client tells the server what kind of food it was and what inventory slot it came from, and then the server tells the client how full you are and how many items are left in the slot (so that the client can update the screen to show these things). If the communication channel is iffy, those messages could be lost and that could explain what you see.

It happened to me and a few other players in my realm. Only affects foods such as sweet berries/carrots

It is a Realm, hosted by a friend. I don't think I've had the problem in a single-player world. Other than this, I've never had a communication issue except that before the last update, sometimes chunks wouldn't load in the middle of the world (the old "chunk won't load, looks like a giant hole, can walk into it and immediately die of suffocation" bug that turns up every once in a while. Haven't had it since the Realms update.) As far as I can tell, it happens with all food types, not just carrots and berries – and as far as I know, we never encountered the food-cooked-in-furnaces-is-coded wrong thing.

Yes, I'm beginning to think the communication lag idea was a red herring as we now have Leong Yuhao's confirming report. We're also getting reports of other strange inventory behavior, though those haven't been associated with eating or hunger bars so they may not be related at all.
A little over a day ago, Realms received a fix for the problem of rolling back after the automatic save and shutdown that occurs after all players leave the world. Before we confirm this and pass it on, I'd like to make sure your realm has the updated software. The new software would have become effective when the realm was shut down. Is there a way you could verify that that has happened, and that the bug still occurs?

The same thing still happens today. This bug does not seem to affect foods which restore more than one point of hunger like cooked meats.

Happened to player on Nintendo Switch who was playing in my local survival world that I load in Windows 10 on Pc in the same house. We connect via Microsoft accounts, not realms, not LAN.

It is still not working. All members of my Realm who are active are experiencing this, and getting very frustrated over it. However, you can swap sweet berries for cookies using commands. It’s technically cheating, but they restore the same hunger (2) and saturation (0.4). However, this only applies to sweet berries and cookies, and can be difficult to manage on a multiplayer server. So all in all, this compensation is impractical, cheaty and plain annoying, but as a temporary sidestep it could work for anyone facing this issue.

Had similar issue with Sweet Berries and Potato, all links pointed here. I can give you more information as I think my issue can be somewhat related to this issue. I'm playing 1.14.30 but my server version is 1.14.32 and after planting an edible food, I can't consume it while pointing to the air. Animation plays but food item isn't consumed and hunger remains unchanged. To reproduce it:
1. Have low hunger.
2. Plant a potato or a sweet berry bush.
3. Point at air and consume it.
A simple workaround is to point at a solid, not interactable, block not further than 3 blocks from you, and then consume it.
I believe the same goes with carrots and other food you can plant.

I've only had this issue with Potatoes (not Baked), Sweet Berries and Carrots.
Beetroot and Melon seem to have worked consistently.
This issue randomly pops up as and when for all members of the Realm when it happens.

I've had a similar issue on Nintendo Switch. My son suddenly began to not be able to eat while we were playing split screen in a local world in my account. It shows the first half second of eating animation, then stops and repeats, never finishing animation, never consuming food or raising hunger bar. The issue has persisted on his profile, in every world we've tried, including a newly created one, in either his account or in mine, after closing and re-opening, and after restarting minecraft. This applies to every type of food we've tried (potatoes, baked potatoes, cooked lamb).
My character can eat normally, his cannot in any world he plays in. We have created him another profile as a work around, but this does not allow him to play worlds started in his original profile.

I am constantly dealing with this problem as well. Sometimes I can eat the food, and sometimes it just plays the animation and nothing happens. Carrots and sweet berries are completely inedible. I can only eat potatoes after they have been cooked. This is getting really annoying.

I had a similar problem except I CANT EAT ANYTHING! but when I show my freinds it goes away

My new game is broken, ive played 5 days now and now I cant get hungry anymore, i play survival hard. 😞

@Janni Nilsson: if you can't get hungry, you're probably in peaceful mode. Check the world settings while you are in the world, as as there a separate setting for "Default game mode" and "Personal game mode."

Sorry but no, Golden Helmet. This issue, which I’ve found often effects lower-quality foods, especially sweet berries, occurred in a Minecraft Bedrock edition Survival-Hard world. Also, while you can change your personal game mode, difficulty is always communal in a world or realm. Ie you can be in creative and your friend in the same realm can be in survival, but it is the world itself that is set to peaceful, easy, normal or hard.

Oh, I’m sorry, I got the game mode and difficulty mixed up! I think I also got this bug mixed up with another one when I saw the update.

Ok so I had the same issue today. I tried to eat, the game showed me the eating animation but no food was added to the food-bar and no bread was reduced from my inventory.
This issue was fixed when I started the game again a couple hours later.
Maybe related, maybe unrelated:
My minecarts were moving at a bout 2fps. The weird thing was that my camera movement was still smooth during the 2fps movement of my minecart.
Drops and xp didn't drop at the moment a mob was killed.
This was also fixed on restart.
I had the issue in a realm while running minecraft on PC. I didn't check the version (yet, if you'd like me to check). The realm is running on survival mode (normal).

This problem only appeared when playing in a BDS server or realm world, so it could only be the server software's fault

Sometimes I have this bug in 1.17.20.23. I eated bread, but at the 3rd attept I eated successfully. When i iated at the first two attempts, my game lagged.

Not sure if it's a lag issue but I have seen this today with 1.17.11 on Windows 10. I noticed it at ~1/4 haunch missing (meaning almost completely full).

this bug has happened on my computer since i updated 1.17.40, please fix it,i donnot know whether it is about lag issue

Since the update 1.20.30 – this issue along with other "lag" issues have been reported.
Does MCPE-54853 seem to fit your issue?
