Converting honey bottles to blocks in inventory

When you convert 16(or more, had 64 in my inventory) honey bottles into honey blocks without a crafting bench all the glass bottles disappear except the last 4. I thought it would be faster than the bench cuz you have to transfer glass bottles out of the bench after making each honey block but since there's only 4 spaces when you craft in your inventory I kept tapping honey blocks but all the glass bottles disappeared except the last batch of 4.
