Nether Reactor Doesn't Work

I updated to 0.5.0, and went to creative mode to make a Nether Reactor right away, and I built it exactly as you are supposed to, and then tried using an Iron Sword to activate it, but nothing happens. I mad a new world and did the same thing, but nothing happened. Please fix this, as I really want to see the nether!
