Bug: double chest hit box either broken or nonexistant as you can interact with things behind a double chest by looking down the middle of the double chest. For example: a hopper, another chest, or anything with an interactive interface.
Assumed reason 1: the game treats a double chest as 2 separate chests and only visually merges due to the lack of a double chest hit box.
Assumed reason 2: the game is not required to have the code meant for a double chest hit box and uses the 2 merging chests and their hitboxes make up the double chest hitbox, and is functioning as normal.
