Zombies are not spawning in caves (again). Reported this bug for a previous version and was fixed but seems to be back in the 1.16.57 beta.
I was testing despawning when I noticed no zombies were spawning when I created a roof above the spawning area.

Is this still occurring on 1.16.0.63?

Yes it still on 1.16.0.63

This still affects 1.16.0.2 (release).
This bug happens because behavior_packs/vanilla_1.15/spawn_rules/zombie.json removes ""minecraft:spawns_underground": {}," rule.
I attached a diff showing the changes.

I suspect that when the zombie villager was updated to v2, an outdated version of zombie.json was used.

Confirmed for 1.16.0

1.16.0 bedrock realm.
Zombie spawner behavior appears to have changed radically. I've got two zombie spawners, one partially outdoors (dungeon was intersected by a river along one edge), and one in my mines. The outdoor spawner runs at the same rate as spawners did before, but after a small group of zombies were created it stopped working.
The mine spawner has changed even more drastically, only spawning a single zombie and at a much slower rate than the partially outdoor spawner. A nearby skeleton spawner still behaves as it did previously.
Neither zombie spawners produced a zombie villager, but I haven't spent the time needed to fully test whether or not that has changed as well.
I had been waiting for the nether update to venture into the nether in order to start getting resources I needed to begin the process of healing zombie villagers. Now that I've got the update my zombie spawners are crippled, thus thwarting me still.
Super stoked about this, guys. Any plans on fixing this?

Both this and MCPE-52743 are open and talking about the same issue. Excited for the fix though!

Shouldn’t this be closed as either a duplicate of MCPE-52743 or fixed?
