Compass and spawnpoint aren't at your bed

When I crafted a compass, I expected it to point to the bed (I slept in it) and it didn't. Do beds in MCPE set your spawn like they do in PC? Also, when I died, I spawned way up in the air, and somewhat close to my bed (like 50 blocks... That's the world spawn.) The bed has a torch 1 block above, but there's no "Your home bed was missing or obstructed" message like in PC. The tablet I am playing on is a Kindle Fire 3rd generation.
