Masses of lighting updates cause chunks to flash black for a split second

I was just burning a forest down in my survival world and I noticed that chunk updates started happening like crazy and they were flashing black and then back to normal. It didn't lag my game, but it was annoying.

I believe this has to do with lighting updates and that they are to slow.
