I had a pet wolf ride in a boat with me, but when I exited, he would not leave the boat. I walked far away to see if he would "teleport", but he did not. He was standing when I entered the boat. I tried to toggle his sit/stand status, but it appeared to do nothing.
This seems to mimic the behavior of other "guest" mobs (e.g., sheep) I've had with me. If I get two in the boat before I get there, I have to kill one to get in. No amount of enticements (wheat, seeds, etc.) will get them to leave.

This resolution (works as intended) makes sense; however, there doesn't to be a way to retrieve the boat in MCPE to let the animal out as there is in the desktop version. If you try to bash on it with anything, you board it instead of retrieving it. The only way I've found to retrieve the boat is to set it on fire, which of couse damages (kills, if you're not quick with the water bucket) the poor animal. Do we need a "Retrieve" button, say if you have an axe in hand?
Logged new issue ( MCPE-8906 ) to address concerns.
Adding my comment from MCPE-8906 here too for completeness: You can retrieve a boat (breaking it and dropping a boat item), by tapping the boat several times in a row (don't hit the board button!). You will see the boat rocking back and forth more and more as you do this. This is the same way that a minecart is retrieved. Any mob(s) inside the boat will pop out.
Thus, a work around is to retrieve the boat freeing the trapped pet/mob(s). Same thing works with a mob trapped in a minecart. As far as I know, mobs can't extract themselves from minecarts unless you run them through too small a space, so I see the reported "mobs trapped in boats" behavior as normal.
I am using an iPad 2 iOS 8.3 with Minecraft version 0.11.1 and have the same issue. On my system the mobs act as if they are trying to get out (legs move really fast) but they stay in the boat.
