When I create a structure out of book shelves and oak slabs it won't pass on the redstone signal

However, this issue has been closed as Working as Intended.
The intended behavior is that Redstone connection can go up a half-slab, but not downwards. (A lever at the bottom and a piston at the top will connect, but not the other way around.)

I believe this may be something that is working as intended. Slabs only pass a signal in one direction, either up or down ( but I can never remember which it is for the life of me). If you’re dead set on using a material that would blend in with the shelves, try cleverly placed stairs. I’m not sure if they will work, but it’s a start.
