If you throw an ender pearl in nether, instantly go into the portal, then go back to neter, then the ender pearl will remain hanging in the air.

This bug is merely caused by unloading the dimension. This can also be done with some tnt and a 4 chunk Simulation distance. Launching the pearl (or any persistence required: true entity) out of the simulation distance will end its momentum.
