I put mending on my pickaxe and the xp goes into my xp bar while my pickaxe has mending on it, even when i pull my pickaxe out the xp goes to the bar instead of the weapon, making mending kind of useless at times.

If you have mending on your armor, the xp will be divided between your armor pieces and your xp bar.
