When players get nearby each other they swap elytra/cape styles, like if I were wearing the creeper cape and someone else was wearing the cherry blossom cape on my side I would get their cherry blossom cape, they would still have it on my screen but I would also have it. And the same would happen for them. I'm unsure how it happens other than getting near other people
