TL;DR
Bogged spawn frequency appears to be broken since the 1.21.60 update. Please:
restore Bogged spawn frequency to match Strays in cold biomes.
Decrease creeper spawn frequency
If possible, replace all regular zombies, and possibly regular skeletons with Swamp Villager zombies, as they really clash with the unique atmosphere of the mangrove swamp.
Details:
I am not looking for an easier experience. In fact, I love nothing more than a creeper, as I use lots of gunpowder. However:
I live in a mangrove swamp, so I very quickly noticed the drastic changes in the recent update.
Creepers spawn far too often
It is not uncommon for me to find I am being pursued by three creepers at a time, and often nothing else. Maybe a trio of zombies. But rarely a bogged. This wouldn’t be a problem in any other biome, but the consequence of the change seems to be that creepers spawn with highest frequency, regular zombies second, then regular skeletons, and rarely Swamp villager zombies, Bogged, and slimes.
Unlike other biomes, the Mangrove swamps are uniquely difficult to traverse, and highly destructible, but the atmosphere is terrific. Creepers not only make it near impossible to enjoy the atmosphere, as they spawn almost constantly, their explosions wreck havoc in a way they do not in any other biome. So unless the player wants to light the whole area up constantly before doing anything at all, building in the swamps will be more restorative than constructive.
Previously, this was not the case. Bogged constitute a reasonable threat, and made the swamp a truly dangerous place to be at night, (or even during the day sometimes) but a navigable one. Sometimes as many as 6-8 would spawn, a situation which truly forced the player to consider whether tactical retreat was the best option.
The ability to momentarily hide from them while traversing the swamp made it like a game of hide and seek, and their camo not only contributes greatly to the atmosphere, but actually works, sometimes forcing the player to search for them at the risk of actually taking lethal damage in order to stop a harassing barrage of arrows.
I developed a respectful relationship with the bogged as mutual residents of the bog, into whose territory I would go when the risk was worthwhile, or just for the fun of a thrilling parkour.
Now, I generally avoid the swamp, since going into it means that, unless I don’t mind it becoming a destroyed wasteland, it’s likely that at least one creeper will go off, destroying mass quantities of mud and several mangroves.
Creepers make sense in the swamp: they are thematic and threatening. I love this, and I certainly still want them around in the mangrove swamp. However, their current spawn frequency feels excessive in an imbalanced way. Please reduce their spawn frequency, and increase the bogged and slime as primary mobs.
Additionally, if possible, please remove classic zombies from the swamp, but keep swamp villager zombies. Up until now, the swamp has felt like a unique place, dark, slimy, and stealthy. The classic zombie colors clash unpleasantly with this vibe. To a degree, so do basic skeletons.
