Severe frame rate drops and stuttering after 1.21.120 update — main menu and gameplay become unplayable within minutes on Windows 11 gaming laptop.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch Minecraft Bedrock Edition 1.21.120 on Windows 11.

  2. Wait on the main menu screen for 30–60 seconds.

    • Sometimes the menu is immediately laggy; other times it starts smooth and gradually becomes choppy.

  3. Join any Realm or single-player world (including brand new worlds).

  4. Play for 1–5 minutes.

  5. Game becomes extremely choppy, laggy, and eventually unplayable.

  6. Frame rate drops to single digits; camera and movement inputs stutter.

  7. Closing and reopening Minecraft temporarily resets the issue but it returns every session.

Expected Result:

Game should maintain consistent high frame rate (120–144 FPS) on capable hardware without severe lag, as it did prior to the 1.21.120 update.

Observed Result:

  • Main menu and gameplay performance degrade rapidly within minutes of loading.

  • FPS drops from smooth levels (100–140) to as low as 5–15 FPS.

  • Movement and camera become delayed and inconsistent.

  • GPU usage often drops to 0%, while CPU and temps stay low.

  • Issue occurs in all worlds (new or existing) and Realms, regardless of nearby entities or structures.

  • Performance occasionally returns to normal randomly, then degrades again after some time.

Environment

Device Information:
• Platform: Windows 11
• Device: ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16
• CPU: Intel i7-11800H (11th Gen)
• GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 Laptop GPU
• RAM: 24 GB
• Game Version: 1.21.120 (Bedrock Edition)
• Graphics Drivers: Latest NVIDIA drivers (clean-installed)
• Other Details:
• BIOS checked and updated.
• Issue persists on all power modes (Standard, Eco, Optimized).
• Occurs regardless of texture packs or render distance.
• No overheating; system stays cool even during lag.

Troubleshooting Already Tried:
• Updated GPU drivers (including clean reinstall via NVIDIA app).
• Updated BIOS and firmware.
• Fully uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft.
• Restarted and power-cycled laptop.
• Verified hardware performance with other games (Overwatch, League of Legends — both run normally).
• Disabled/reenabled GPU drivers manually (sometimes temporarily fixes the issue).
• Tested in both Realms and local worlds — issue persists identically.

Additional Information:
• The issue began immediately after the 1.21.120 update.
• Performance was completely normal on previous versions.
• It appears Minecraft may not be consistently using the dedicated GPU (RTX 3050) and instead intermittently switches to integrated Intel UHD Graphics, leading to massive frame drops and lag.
• No third-party mods or shaders are installed.
• Problem affects multiple users on similar setups (based on community reports).
