This has happened to me twice and to my friend once. When we were flying with our enchanted elytra with at least unbreaking 2 and mending, we hit a wall and died from kinetic energy. When we came back to where we had died, we got all of our stuff back except for the armor and elytra we were wearing. I could not recreate this in my own world, so I assume it is only possible in a multiplayer world or realms. It happened on a realm. The first time I died, I was in a small cave, the second time, I was in a 1 by 2 tunnel mining for netherite. The time my friend died, they were also in a 1 by 2 tunnel mining for diamonds. I tried recreating this in the same realm it happened, but I could not do it.
