Crafting cake near a lot of mobs results in no cake

Having a farm with a lot of cows (50+)  and attempting to craft a cake leads to no cake.

This also results in losing some buckets in the process, some milk buckets become normal, and you usually end up with only two of the three buckets after crafting.

But no cake.
