Whenever I open Realms{I want to join my friend's realm}, a large overlay comes up which says buy realms or free trial. I have attempted to get rid of this by pressing the links multiple times but it will not go away.

This appears to be a duplicate of REALMS-2288, which was later resolved as, "Works As Intended". This "issue" that you are experiencing, isn't actually a problem and works how the developers intended it to. Please see the parent ticket for further details.
