Killing mobs is not releasing XP orbs. I'm playing survival. Mining still releases XP, but killing mobs isn't giving me anything.

Does this only happen on a realm or does it also occur on a local copy of the world?
I assume you are not carrying any "mending" items/armor that would use the XP?
