On the page where Mojang instructs users on how to set up their own server, https://help.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360058525452-How-to-Setup-a-Minecraft-Java-Edition-Server , they are told to make sure that they have the recommended version of Java. However, this version is now old. The version that is on the Java website (which is linked to) is Java runtime 8, which is used for 1.16.5 and below.
This is a bug because anyone who follows these instructions for more recent versions of the game will face Java runtime errors.

Adding this comment separately to avoid this bug report being marked as a feature request.
I would recommend that the Java.com links be deleted, and users are instead recommended to install Java runtime 8, 17, or 21 (listing their respective versions).
