Deleting a Microsoft Account does not delete the associated Minecraft account

EDIT: I know there is a report about this in WEB-5669 and WEB-7547. However, three years later, deleting a Microsoft account still does not remove the Minecraft account, and my account is now stuck in this loophole.

According to Minecraft official GDPR and account deletion policy, Minecraft: Java Edition accounts purchased after August 2022 are Microsoft accounts and should be fully managed — including deletion — through Microsoft. Minecraft deletion instructions direct users to the Microsoft Privacy Dashboard, indicating that deletion of the Microsoft account includes deletion of the Minecraft account and its data.

However, after deleting my Microsoft account, I found that the associated Minecraft account (NoLongerBoosted) still exists. I contacted Microsoft Support to report the issue, but they redirected me to Mojang/Minecraft Support. Minecraft Support then asked for account verification information that I no longer have access to, as the Microsoft account has already been permanently deleted. Xbox Support also redirected me back to Minecraft Support.

This creates a support loop where none of the support channels are able to assist, effectively preventing the deletion of my Minecraft account and personal data. This conflicts with the GDPR right to erasure.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Purchase Minecraft: Java Edition after August 2022 using a Microsoft account.

  2. Follow Minecraft GDPR instructions and delete the Microsoft account through the official process.

  3. Minecraft account still exists so attempt to delete or confirm deletion of the associated Minecraft account.

  4. Contact Microsoft Support → redirected to Minecraft Support.

  5. Contact Minecraft Support → asked to verify the account using information that is no longer accessible.

  6. Contact Xbox Support → also redirected to Minecraft Support.

Expected Result:

  • Deleting a Microsoft account should also automatically delete the associated Minecraft account and personal data.

  • Alternatively, Minecraft Support should be able to process a deletion request without requiring information that becomes inaccessible once the Microsoft account is deleted.

  • Users should be able to fully exercise their GDPR rights, including account and data deletion.

Actual Result:

  • The Minecraft account (NoLongerBoosted) remains active even after the Microsoft account was permanently deleted.

  • Microsoft Support claims no responsibility and redirects to Minecraft Support.

  • Minecraft Support is unable to proceed without verification that is no longer possible.

  • Xbox Support also redirects to Minecraft Support.

  • The user is caught in a loop and cannot delete their Minecraft account or associated data.

Impact:
This issue shows a failure in the integration between Microsoft account deletion and Minecraft account management. It contradicts Mojang’s own policies and results in a GDPR compliance issue, as affected users are left unable to delete their data or accounts.

I'm not the only one who mistakenly deleted a Microsoft account; I also have other accounts. The Minecraft GDPR process was misleading.

I know there is a report about this in WEB-5669, however, three years later, deleting a Microsoft account still does not delete the Minecraft account. I am stuck trying to delete my Minecraft account because support cannot verify me, and I have already tried hundreds of times. Can a staffer help me?

Cluld try to provide to minecraft the old deleted microsoft account email?.

I tried at the time (lots of times). They ask for a lot of information about the account to verify ownership, and if you can’t provide 100% of the answers, they instantly close the ticket. If you try to say something like: ‘I already deleted the account the way the Minecraft page instructed. I don’t need to verify ownership because the account is already deleted. Can’t you just check that the Microsoft account is gone and delete my Minecraft account as well?’ they’ll just reply: ‘Unfortunately, we could not verify account ownership. Please submit a new ticket.’

The point here is that I followed exactly what Minecraft said to do, but they refuse to accept their own instructions. On top of that, they’ve known about this for 3 years and nothing has changed. That’s why I submitted this as a bug again, and I hope they finally fix it instead of just closing the report as 'resolved' or 'duplicate'.
