authserver.mojang.com is inaccessible, possibly preventing the installation of modpacks using Forge launcher

For the last couple of days I was unable to install any modpack (via CurseForge) that is using the Forge launcher. The installation always failed at the last step that involed installing the Forge Launcher.

I tried to install Forge Launcher manually and found a likely issue - authserver.mojang.com cannot be resolved. The issue seemes to be global, since all online tools seem to unable to match this URL with an IP address.
