Theory: the new launcher has a problem writing to launcher_profiles.json sometimes
this is really what I get for reporting a bug, being told it is an isolated issue only with my machine. x to doubt.
I know how it works. What you are trying to do is move the problem form launcher problems to personal problems, but that does not help. I said I CAN open it from my browser.
THIS IS NOT RESOLVED. you should get confirmation that the 'fix' worked before making it that way.

it is already on that list, and it has since stopped interfering. As I ALREADY SAID, it is NOT that, the connection works fine, I can even get to the files from my browser. look, I am a tech person, the web filter is NOT the problem, as it still downloads the versions, and I can get to the versions list on the old launcher. the newer launcher is the problem. I saw someone else say the same thing on a different fourme while I was looking for a way to fix it.
I can make new profiles, but the versions dont show up. If I use the classic launcher 1.6.89-j, the profile editor works perfectly, I can select any version, including 1.14 snapshots, meaning it IS using the current list, thus able to access the database. When I use launcher 2.1.1433, It imports the profiles from the old one, and can download all the game files, but cant create new profiles that are not the default setting in version selection (latest release).

Yes, but that does not effect it, as I said, it downloads versions still, and if I use the classic launcher, the versions show up fine.

When the chunk does not load, it is possible to sneak over the edge and break blocks underneath the ground.
Yes the 'waiting for chunk is bad. I could even actually shift walk over the edge of the chunk, break the block under the one I was standing on, then dig down once it loaded to find i had broken a block I should not have been able to.
