Considering your hardware this might be a problem with your system.
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 2600
RAM: 8GBx2 (HX424C15FB2/8)
This combination might not be able to process that many entities at a time. I suggest trying this on a different machine if possible to see if it happens again.
Update: This also happens through other semi-transparent blocks such as Honey Blocks and Slime Blocks, if you drop the item, it still does not render the particles through the item entity.
Successfully recreated the issue on a simulated environment, this time the F3 menu is enabled. The screenshots are attached to the original post.
