It seems that the issue is fixed (there was a update for the redstone mansion on the minecraft marketplace). I tried it and I can now place a lever on the block.

I have the same issue. There is a workaround you can go to creative or survival, place the lever then switch back to adventure. Hopefully a more permanent solution is found by the dev team.
