Same problem here. I have the digital version, and the latest update available. Minecraft started to crash and lock in the Mojang screen since the Nether update.
The button combination worked, but the game keeps crashing A LOT. All the progress I made converting zombie villagers, and the ones that were born after that, desapeared after every crash. I lost items too.
