I don't think it is lost. When you enter the portal to leave the end, you will be taken to where you set your spawn point, which is not where the experience drops, you have to return to your original spawn point, just craft a compass but I guess it already despawn by the time you get there. Keep that in mind next time

You have to explore a lot to find one. It is rare that a jungle is near spawn
