I think it has something to do with old world gen being incompatible with the new MCW10 1.8 version. Old chunks seem to be corrupted somehow when you exit and the world is saved.
I'm playing on a world from 2016 (from version 1.6 I think or older). I exited the world and when I entered it again, I was at world spawn, dead. Luckily I haven't moved far away from spawn and was able to retrieve all my items.
