I died and when i went back my items weren't there for me to recollect

I was building a Skelton xp farm and made a mistake by taking the bubble elevator up and i came crashing down the other side dropping 24 blocks and died I immediately  went back to the location which only took me about a minute to come to the realisation that all my items were gone and no where to be found even though I went to the exact location of when I died.

I lost all my good equipment 😞
