BDS Server Connection Issue (Error Code: Terracotta)

Hi team,

I am unable to connect to the server. Every time I try to join, the game disconnects and shows an error dialog with the codeword "Terracotta".

Details:
- Error Detail: Win,D,,GC-10.0.26200.9711 Error Detail InitialConnection-149
- Client Version: Minecraft Bedrock 1.26.60

I have tested running the server using both RakNet and NetherNet connection types, but unable to connect with either protocol.

Could you please check your server logs and look into this connection issue?

Thank you!

Update: Issue resolved!

After investigating, it turns out to be a port configuration issue with NetherNet. The connection error was caused by missing or misconfigured UDP port mappings in server.properties.

To fix this, simply enable NetherNet and properly define the external-to-internal UDP port binding using the server-udp-ports parameter.

Example configuration in server.properties:
server-udp-ports=127.0.0.1:20001:20001

Format syntax:
server-udp-ports=[ip:]external[-external]:internal[-internal]

Hope this helps anyone else running into the same "Terracotta" error!

I have encountered the same problem. I tried on Windows and Android and failed to log in. My network can access featured servers normally. I configured it following @Tim’s solution, but the issue still occurs.:crying:

Same issue here (Terracotta, Error Detail InitialConnection-149, client 1.26.60 Windows GDK and Android, BDS 1.26.61.1 in Docker on a VPS). Featured servers worked fine, only my self-hosted servers failed. It also failed with transport=raknet.

Fix that worked for me: NetherNet needs TCP 19132 for the signaling handshake plus a separate UDP port range for gameplay. With only server-udp-ports=19132:19132 it did not work. What fixed it:

  • transport=nethernet

  • server-udp-ports=<public_ip>:19140-19155:19140-19155 (public IP of the host, port range with at least one port per player)

  • Published TCP 19132 and UDP 19140-19155 in Docker (-p 19132:19132/tcp -p 19140-19155:19140-19155/udp)

  • Allowed TCP 19132 and UDP 19140-19155 inbound in the firewall After this, joining works again.

Hope this also helps.
