Inventory cleared and user respawned after BDS server

I'm running a BDS in the cloud. I updated yesterday from 1.40.20 to 1.14.30. When I signed in after the update (from Windows 10), everything worked perfectly, but my friend was not so lucky. When he signed in from PS4, the game had cleared his inventory and respawned him at the world spawn point.

I have a complete backup of the world/ folder from before I upgraded and can upload a copy to you for debugging if you are interested in attempting to reproduce the error.

Hi Nate,

Unfortunately PS4 is not supported for BDS at this time so I cannot confirm this bug. Have you had a look to see if, for some reason, his user account has been detected as a new user? You can do this by opening the world with a tool like MCCToolchest and checking the user data.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't know how to look into the server data to check. I'll try downloading MCCToolchest and have a look. I have a snapshot of the data before I upgraded the server, and I'll compare to the current data to see if I can spot a different with how the user account is represented in data.

If you have trouble and need a hand feel free to send me a DM on Twitter (same name) if you have it or even Reddit (same name again). You basically just want to point MCCToolchest (or another one is Universal Minecraft Editor) and check the players section. If you can upload your worlds (before and after) I'm happy to have a look for you too.

Thanks for the tip! Took me some time to scp some stuff from linux to windows, but got it to work.

Before the upgrade, there are 3 users, and after there are 4. The user that had trouble was the one connecting from PS4. He was "player_server_fc2...244" and after the upgrade, the server assigned him a new data folder as "player_server_508...062". Added screenshots to original description.

Awesome, at least we know what caused it. Did anything change for the other user? Did they have to re sign into their account or anything? Anything that could explain it picking him up as another user?

For example, on Xbox, my profile owns Minecraft but I am able to sign into any profile on the Xbox and play on the server. They didn't have a different profile signed in at the time?

I mainly ask because if this was widespread there would be tickets coming in thick and fast for it on realms and such so just want to rule out environmental factors.

Nothing changed. I will try later this week to rollback and see if we get the same results.

I tried rolling back to 1.40.20 but it didn't help, so I think we can rule out the server upgrade. There must be a different factor at play.

Is the server storing a mapping of PS4/Xbox gamertag to player GUID in the game data? If so, is there a way to change or update that mapping? I couldn't see anything in MCCToolchest.

I'm going to close this one off as a duplicate of MCPE-55815 as we've started using that one as the master for player GUID changes.

In general MCPE reports get more visibility so having a duplicate here in BDS on something thats so hard to reproduce doesn't benefit us.

Hey Nate,

Mojang is attempting to find the cause of this bug but are having trouble. I just thought I'd check whether you had the before and after world saves from when this happened so they can see it.

Cheers,
