I was playing on realms on my Nintendo Switch and left at some point to do some things. I came back a couple of hours later to find that my character inventory has been wiped and the character level, which was in the 30s, was reset. My character did re-spawn where I left it last though. This was not too long after the update with the foxes.
Note from [~GoldenHelmet]
There is a new issue causing empty player inventory, experience reset, and spawning at world spawn in singleplayer since the 1.19.50 update. We are tracking that at MCPE-164765. Please do not comment here if you experienced something like this in singleplayer.
As an additional reminder, please do not comment only to say that you experienced the bug. Comments are for adding information that may be helpful to the developers in understanding and fixing the bug. To express that you are affected and would like the issue to be the prioritized, click on the "Vote for this issue" text at the upper right.
Additional Info
There appear to be scenarios where a player connecting to a Realm, Bedrock Dedicated Server or Multiplayer game can join in a "new" state. The character will appear at world spawn with no levels or items in their personal inventories (including Ender Chests).
BDS Servers appear to show them connecting as a new user per BDS-3244
Before the upgrade, there are 3 users, and after there are 4. The user that had trouble was the one connecting from PS4. He was "player_server_fc2...244" and after the upgrade, the server assigned him a new data folder as "player_server_508...062". Added screenshots to original description.
If you have this issue and are able to provide a copy of your world including information that would help identify the old user (not personal information, something like the items in your inventory before the wipe) that may help track down the cause. Please be sure to include the type of game (multiplayer, realms, singleplayer or bedrock dedicated server) and any other important information (like whether this is the first time you played this map after an update etc).

This could be related to the Account Error -9 issue (MCPE-62421), since that error appears to mean that Minecraft has failed to authenticate the user at startup.
PS4's PC Remote Play seems to trigger the error -9, at least for some users, and that could explain the comment cited from the BDS report above, that the affected player was connecting from a PS4.

I had been playing as a guest user on xbox version and lost inventory and spawn point when I logged out. Played again next day and put everything in a chest before logging out then as a test decided to log back in a few minutes later. Respawned where I had just logged out with all of the inventory and armour I had "lost" from the previous day!!

yeah i know, this gives gives you two accounts in one as a guest when you log out and then in again as guest sometimes you lose your stuff but this can happen again and can switch inventories/ accounts when logging in as guest

I also came across this bug. I fixed it by playing normally, and a few days later, my stuff reappeared (and the new stuff got lost).

This happened to my son when he was in my world, His mother turned on his xbox at his home which signed him out at my home, thus causing his xbox to "signed in at another location" and kicking him out of minecraft, when he returned he was at world spawn with no inventory or armour or anything in his enderchest. Annoying because we had only just been on an inventory run to the nether in 1.16 for the first time, so he lost his ancient debris. Please fix this, my son won't play minecraft because he says "whats the point when your stuff gets deleted" and i don't blame him. people work hard to get where they are, let alone the hours, to have it all go. This should be Top of your fix list otherwise what is the point?

Oh and change your affected versions to include 1.16.

noticeed this problem appears 99% when i reconnect to the server on v 1.16.1 then it starts to decrease as i get back to older versions... if on 1.16.1 i get this problem everytime i reconnect, on 1.7.4 i reconnect about 50 to 70 times to get reset 1 time... idk if this helps ?!

I am also having this issue.
Items and blocks placed in the realm appear to be in place.
Items in chests appar unchanged.
Items on my character and in my inventory are all missing.
My character's style was not changed.
iOS 13.5.1 (17F80)

Minecraft 1.16.1
For those affected by this issue, it would be helpful if you could upload a copy of the affected world save for investigation:
On Windows 10 you can use the Export world feature.
On Android or iOS you need to use a file explorer to navigate to Device storage > games > com.mojang > minecraftWorlds
On Xbox or Switch the only way is to upload it to a Realm, and then download the world on Windows 10 or Android/iOS. (Please do not purchase a Realms subscription just to provide a world to us - but if you have a Realm already this may be a viable option if you wish to do so.)
If the world is larger than 10MB you can upload the world to OneDrive or a similar file sharing site, and then share the link.

This also happened to me. I play on Xbox 1, and I had a survival world with my friends. I save and quit the wold in the nether with all of my good items on me, and when log back into the world an hour later I am back at my world respawn with all of my items gone, including my levels
the main things I lost were
diamond helmet with protection 3 respiration 3 aqua infinity Unbreaking 3 mending
diamond chestplate with thorns 3 protection 4 Unbreaking 3 mending
diamond leggings with Unbreaking 3 mending and protection 4
diamond boots with depth strider 3 protection 4 Unbreaking 3 mending father falling 4
diamond sword with looting 3 sharpness 5 Unbreaking 3 mending
diamond pickaxe with Unbreaking 3 mending efficiency 5 fortune 3
diamond axe with efficiency 5 Unbreaking 3 mending
diamond shovel with silk touch mending Unbreaking 3 and efficiency 5
Trident with channelling impaling 4 loyalty 3 mending Unbreaking
2 ancient debris
When I joined back in, as well as my stuff being gone, two parrots I had tamed had despawned and so had 4 villagers, two cartographers and two librarians selling mending and efficiency 5 books

We also encountering this on version 1.16.1, I am not quite sure how to replicate the issue but sometimes when we logout all our items is loss and our player is at the re spawn point.
ahhm not sure about this but I think it happens to my character when my health is down or got a status.

I tried many scenario to replicate the issue. like counting how many logout and login to replicate the issue but no luck on that I think I can much replicate the issue when my character scenario was climbing which change my x , y, and z coordinates

Not sure if this is a fault on Microsoft’s side, but sometimes when joining as a guest the inventory resets. Leaving and rejoining sometimes reverts it back, but this can take 3-4 tries
For those still affected, it would be quite useful if you are able upload a copy of your world save for investigation.
On Windows 10 you can use the Export world feature.
On Android or iOS you need to use a file explorer to navigate to Device storage > games > com.mojang > minecraftWorlds

If the world is larger than 10MB you can upload the world to OneDrive or a similar file sharing site, and then share the link.

Here is my world that has been impacted by this issue in the past. Last I logged-off it was in the normal state, not the new state. If it happens again, I'll upload another snapshot.

Relates to MCPE-48370.

@thecrafter06: thanks, but that issue is not related. MCPE-48370 is attributable to items dropping or being displaced to unexpected places (above the ceiling, below the floor) when players die. This issue is attributable to a player's login credentials/identity not being recognized when they rejoin a world they have previously played in, so they are treated as a new player.

This happened to a friend of mine on local split-screen on Xbox. Unfortunately I can't provide the world because I don't have Realms.
I will start making backups more frequently.

I have this issue literally every time I disconnect from my wife's world. It's been almost a year. The only thing that seems to fix the problem is quitting minecraft externally and restarting it every time, which is time consuming and rather obnoxious but dealing with it any other way makes playing with her untenable.

This issue started happening to me since the 1.16 update. I play on my phone( Honor 10) and can't manage to export the worlds so sorry.
The first time it happened was few months ago, I've lost all of the stuff that were in my inventory (armor and experience included). After entering the world I appeared at the world spawn, about 5000 blocks from the spot I logged out from. However all of the progress otherwise was saved. Nothing I did brought my stuff back, whether it was reloading the game or copying the world.
The second time happened today, unlike last time I appeared at the same spot I logged out of. Everything in my inventory disappeared however the hearts and hunger stayed the same as they were when I logged out (four hearts and seven hunger). Again, all of the progress otherwise was saved. This time I tried to change the world setting to allow the guests to only be viewers, but it didn't change anything for my character. Unfortunately I didn't have any Ender chests so I couldn't check that version either.
Both times I was playing in survival, with difficulty set to normal and the only change to the settings was to show the coordinates. My minecraft version is 1.16.40.
Thank you for your time and stay safe and healthy.

Similar issues here. Xbox 1 split screen long term world, been having difficulties with the inventory of Username(1) is lost, sometimes XP lost, sometimes back at world spawn, sometimes at the same location but no items, very sad as we lost many shulker boxes and netherite multiple times. And upon relogging him repeatedly, it would go back and forth between world spawn ID and 19 xp base ID. Neither of which had the lost items. Been happening for a very long time, current version 1.16.40

One thing that happened to me is that when I had a guest account, when I logged out then logged back in on split screen, without turning off the Xbox or logging out off the guest account, the guest account items were sometimes deleted, like @Math Bjbo said. In my case, it seems to only happen with the last user that joins before it stops (in both situations, I cliked "Save and Quit" from the first account that joined). It may be that the last person that joins on the session before the bug happens somehow has the server lose track of them on the next session? Another thing I would like to point out: this happened to me sometimes, but according to the comments, it happens only on specific worlds.
I would also like to point out that I created the world at 1.16.40.

my friend has a world that me and another buddy play on. This bug only happens to me for some reason and not the other person. Also, it’s like I have two accounts that I switch between. For example one of the times I log into this world I will be in a cave. Then after logging out for a while I will be in my house with diffrent stuff

I've had this issue in 2 different local multiplayer worlds. Both times in both worlds (that i do not own) after I've signed out and signed back in all my things are gone including my map which is very frustrating. We've tried closing the world and going back in but I've never managed to get anything back. We're playing on beta on the Xbox 1s.

Bedrock Dedicated Server
I notice the server log,It's the same xuid but I forget taking a screenshot.
It's the server word before losing and after.
[media][media]It happened serval times. I run the server in local. This time I didn't shutdown the server.
I config the white list but it's hard connecting xbox server in China, so I disable the online mode. But it happened when I enable the online mode.

In today's world, after the incident, the end and the nether are ok, but the overwold is half corrupted. Most of the builds and changes are ok. For example, I transformed a mansion into my home and now it is half in initial state and half with my changes. The village close to home is now a starting village again, without my changes. And a mega house I built is cut in half At the edge of the chunks.

UPDATE: I'm not longer 100% confident that these steps always work. Another player in my home also theorized that the issue could be triggered by Player 1 Saving and Quitting while Player 2 is still in the game (which causes the game to end); versus player 2 quitting first, then player 1 - this sequence could predict the Minecraft character that would be loaded for player 2 in the next game. - but we haven't tested this scenario yet.
With regards to guest profiles, I don't know what that is. The profiles we log into on the xbox both have Microsoft accounts with username and passwords, if that helps.
I'll leave the info below but now I am less confident in the consistent reproducibility of this as there seems to be another variable, possibly the one I mentioned above.
ORIGINAL TEXT:
I am able to reproduce this on an Xbox One for a 2nd player joining a Minecraft game on the same console (not online).
You need 2 profiles on the Xbox for this method to reproduce the issue of a 2nd player joining and having a different/unexpected Minecraft character appear. The gist is that it depends on what xbox profile was used to sign into the xbox when you turned it on, and if you changed your xbox profile while in Minecraft using the Y button on the Minecraft title screen.
In this scenario, there are 2 xbox user profiles, and the world with the issue exists in user profile #1.
Turn the Xbox One console on and sign in using profile #1.
Start Minecraft
Open the Minecraft world.
The appropriate Minecraft character will always load for the user that has the world.
Have a 2nd player join the game on the same console (not online) using Xbox profile #2.
When the 2nd player joins it will show one of two possible save points/characters for the 2nd player.
To get the other save point/character to load for player 2:
Exit Minecraft and turn off the console.
Turn the Xbox One console on and sign in using profile #2. <--- PROFILE #2, not #1 like before.
Start Minecraft
On the Minecraft title screen, press Y to change the player's profile to Profile #1 (which is where the world we need to load is).
Open the same Minecraft world as before.
The appropriate Minecraft character will always load for the user that has the world.
Have a 2nd player join the game on the same console (not online) using Xbox profile #2.
When the 2nd player joins it will show the other save point/character for the 2nd player. This will be different than the save point/character in the 1st scenario before... different inventory, different level, different last saved location, etc.
For me, there appear to be only 2 possible characters player #2... and the one that will be loaded seems to be determined based on if the initial player switched xbox profiles while on the Minecraft title screen.
In the repro steps added there, could you please confirm whether the player profiles are guest profiles (i.e. MyGamertag (1)) or regular player profiles?

In my case, this has only happened with Xbox Guest accounts, but I can not speak for everyone. ( Xbox One X )

I updated my original message above.

This only happened to me on one world, which (may be coincidental) a guest joined, but it happened to a regular account, not a guest.

In my issue, was only 1 player.

This issue happend when I joined my friends mutiplayer world today for some reason my player data got deleted including all my items, pet ownerships, and enderchest data as well. We were both playing on switch. This also happend to my other friend playing on the world at the same time.I also joined this world the day prior. Please fix this issue it is critical.

I thought to comment on this because I had the same problem yesterday with my friend, but after a while of playing and trying to get back everything lost, she logged in and seemed to have gotten all everything back. I'm not sure if this is helpful though, but it was my experience.

This happened to me after the 1.16.210 update. The first time we logged in 3 of us logged in everyone but myself (the owner of the world) lost all inventory, levels, and started at world spawn. Any players given operater permission were reset to member. We are playing on the same Xbox one. We made a copy of the world and had a 4th person log into that, same thing. We even tried other worlds and it was the same.

Experiencing a similar issue after updating to 1.16.210 update. We typically have 3 players all playing split-screen from an xbox connected to a BDS server. The first player to log in has their inventory and ender chest contents. One has no items with no ender chest contents and another has what looks like inventory contents from awhile ago with no ender chest contents. If we change who logs in first, the first player to log in has their stuff. What can we do? No one will play minecraft in the house for fear of data loss.

After today’s update, 2nd player to join on Xbox lost all inventory, pet ownership, and was spawned at the world point. Also lost xp levels. Tried signing in multiple times with no change. Regular multiplayer world, both players had ownership settings. Please restore ASAP. Distressing to a child whose pets can’t be moved because they are tamed and not registering to anyone playing.

Update ***
We have tried every account (5) and all worlds with the same bug. The problem only began after installing the 1.16.210 update. Although if 2nd player logs in from a pc there is not a problem and 2nd player has all inventory lost.

This happened when I tried to join my brother's world. His inventory was still there, but mine was completely gone. This was right after we updated Minecraft for the hotfix. I am scared to make new armor because that might disappear next. A few things I had was an Infinity, Punch, Unbreaking, and Power bow, and a enchanted iron sword with knockback and fire aspect. I also had some armour, I think I had a gold chestplate with prot ii

Yes, also happened to me. My son has World, I play split screen in his world. Loaded today - noted it had updated. I joined, started at world spawn, zero levels, empty inventory. We are quite far into the game - I am a big boy and can cope with it, not so my son as I had the ender dragon egg in an ender chest, which is now also empty (for me)........cue much distress. Clearly a bug in this release.
EDIT - I am going to try the fix given by John Hughes above (https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-55815?focusedCommentId=920235&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-920235) but will have to wait until tomorrow
EDIT2 - Darn, fix didn't work. Just starts the profile that was created after the update but that might be because the game had autosaved whilst we tried to figure out what was going on.

Same happened to me.
I logged in as main user, it updated on log in, all is fine for me, son logged in, he has zero inventory, all fully enchanted netherite armour/weapons and tools disappeared, levels reset to zero. Lost shulker box, but can't remember what was in it. His ender chest is empty too. Tried logging out and logging back in, but that doesn't work.
Will this be an automatic fix by Mojang or do we need to do anything??

Same problem here.
Playing with my son in a realm on my Xbox account. If I sign in and connect to the realm I’m in the right place with full inventory. If son joins as player two he’s at spawn with no levels or inventory.
If we quit, my son signs in, connects to realm, he’s in the right place with full inventory. If I join as player two I’m at spawn with no levels or inventory.
we’ve seen occasional weirdness before like this but this is entirely reproducible every time since 1.16.210. I hope it is fixed soon as we can’t reliably play together. I guess he could sign in on his profile, dump inventory in a chest, join as player 2 with me, travel from spawn and collect items. Then he would just have lost levels. But it’s not ideal and we don’t know when the problem will happen again and his inventory is in the ‘wrong’ player again, which would presumably empty ender chests too.
Tomorrow I may download a copy of the realm to play as a local world and see if that helps but based on previous comments I’m not optimistic.

Same thing here. Since the update on Xbox 9th March, the original creator of the survival world is fine but any other family members try to join in split screen under their accounts have no inventory and start at spawn. The world is fine (thank goodness as we have been working on it for over a year since the Bees update) but all enchanted items and experience that each player holds is gone.....

I'll hop on the train here as well. Same thing here - since the March 9th update, I've seen it on two different worlds now: Xbox Series X, local split screen - one where my son's account is host (on creative, so not a big problem there), and the other where my wife's account is host (on survival). Both cases I joined and had 0 levels and blank inventory. The survival in particular involved losing ~28 levels (had just enchanted a new pickaxe), and given we're building our own town in the mountains, multiple stacks of dark oak logs, light-gray stained glass panes, 3 enchanted pickaxes (one silk touch, one fortune/unbreaking/efficiency), and at least 3 stacks of iron lanterns amongst other items.
Previously (before this update) if I ever joined in and didn't see my items, it was due to my data not being refreshed to the game instance, so we would force quit the game and re-establish our connection - that would restore my items and levels.Tried that same method to no avail yesterday multiple times. This feels like the cache has been completely reset on worlds that formerly had split screen players.

It doesn't appear to matter what is in your inventory at least from the xbox. I launched the game on the xbox, and joined the bedrock server. Emptied my inventory and armor into a chest. Logged off. Joined as my son via the xbox and then joined as my character again. His character loaded fine. My character had 0 XP, apon launch. Fell from a high place directly above the original spawn point of the world (Not where I was when I logged off moments before) and all my chests were empty.
I quit the game without saving, logged off my son, joined the server again as the sole user and had all my experience back, started where I had previously left off, and chests were full. Joined my son to the server in split screen on the xbox and rinse and repeat (he had 0 xp, fell from a high place, no items in chests and was at the original spawn point.)
Since 1.16.210 when a second player joins in split screen on the Xbox One X they join as if a new player.

Mojang support you should be able to download the ZIP of the world here:
https://1drv.ms/u/s!Ar9Q8NqhOW6Wga17F_KZbvzd2EbRbA?e=IY7HS4

This is also happening to us on Bedrock Xbox One and is a very annoying issue since it could cause the loss of a ton of netherite, shulker boxes, and elytra

Yes, same issue here, ever since the 1.16.210 patch update on the 9th. My husband and I have multiple worlds and on every single one, whether on his account or mine, the 2nd player starts at original spawn point and no inventory that was previously saved. We play on Xbox series X and Xbox One.

My boyfriend and I play split screen on my realm every night. After the 1.16.210 update, when he logged into player two he was at spawn and had no gear or inventory. We logged out and he logged in as player one. All of his stuff was back and he was in his base where he had logged out before the update. I logged in as player two in split screen and was at spawn with no gear or inventory. I think split screen is not loading the Microsoft account for player two. We play on an Xbox One X.

Is it just me or is this a bigger deal than it's being made? As of 1.16.210 the game is no longer usable in many instances. My son, daughter, and I have been playing in a world together for a while and now simply cannot. We tested several circumstances and from what I can tell the game is seeing a different XUID if you're player 1 vs any other player.
Player 1 - regardless of who signs in has all inventory and levels are as expected.
Player 2 - regardless of who signs in has no inventory or levels.
If player 2 plays for a period of time and signs out, they come back as player 2 they will be just as they were when they signed out. If that same player signs in as the main user (player 1), they revert back to how it was a few days ago. Somehow the game is seeing the xbox user as a different player depending on if they are the main sign on or a secondary player. Although the server is definitely seeing the XUID as teh same regardless of player 1 or player 2.
We tried jumping from high place and respawning, setting respawn points, etc. the profiles still save independent of each other depending on which player you are.
The only workaround we can see is to have each player sign in as the main one, move everything to a chest, and from here on out one person is dedicated as the 1st player to sign in. Which stinks because the server has been great to play independently of each other.

My concern is if they all start playing in the "new" profile, and mojang fixes this, then what? Will they go back to their original? Which profile will take precedent?

Agreed this is a ridiculous issue. It makes the game literally unplayable for anyone who plays split screen. Does Mojang even test before performing releases? The update says "bug fixes" and it literally introduces a bug that renders the game unplayable and creates stress for its players when they see all their items gone.

Completely agree, this is a pretty bad bug. I understand bugs happen but the lack of response from Mojang to confirm it’s being worked on is really disappointing. I’ve also replied to the support ticket I first raised to ask if this issue is being addressed or looked at all, no response.

I have the same problem in which player one joins and are in town with full progress but players 2 and 3 join in with complete wiped inventory’s and loss of levels and progress and we haven’t found a solution on how to fix it if anyone has any tips any and all are welcome.

Agreed @Steve Miler we've turned our bedrock server off to prevent any permanent loss of inventory or XP until this issue is fixed. Its unfortunate that the kids can't enjoy playing a game they really enjoy

I'm assuming since updates don't come very often this could be awhile. I'm new to Minecraft bug reporting, but is there any expectation that anyone from Mojang will address or acknowledge the issue? It will definitely put the game back on the shelf until it's fixed.

It’s so awful to see all of the new comments of reports of this bug that have happened since 1.16.210, when my problems originated after downloading and removing the beta access maybe half a year ago. All these stories show the same thing, the bedrock playing Xboxes just won’t deal with inventories anymore. Hopefully though this will be fixed because of all the new comment attention, and most of all hopefully they can have an option for split screen second player (or maybe all players) to choose in some way which inventory+xp they want to use, as this will prevent the permanent loss of one or the other characters, as another comment has mentioned. Too bad this couldn’t have been caught before affecting so many people.

Please fix this! My wife and I have had the same issue! Last we played before the update, she had a full inventory from exploring and was almost level 40. Now everytime she tries to join all of her progress is gone and she spawns as though she is just joining/playing for the first time i.e. Default skin and default spawn location and all settings reset to default.
Also not sure if this is important but it appears that when she joins as a second player, the game does not log her in properly. We are playing on Xbox One and when she goes into the settings as player two it displays the following message "Achievements can be earned in this world, but you must sign into a Microsoft account to earn them".

If we play on XBox One and don't have realms what do we do? I really want all my gear and inventory back. So disappointing.

Agreed. For those playing Realms it seems the situation will be recoverable with a fix, but for those of us doing split-screen it is not clear whether as soon as you bring the second player into the world whether you have over-written the previous profile. I had a look and this issue wasn't blowing up online as far as I could see, which I assume it would if it affected everyone? So does it only affect some users, and if so what is the 'switch'. I am guessing worlds created after this bug will work as normal, as my 'new' profile seems to behave normally. I warned a couple of households with younger kids NOT to let them play multiplayer until I could confirm the bug was fixed - happily this affected my profile, but if it had been a childs progress and items lost I can only imagine the tears.

This is affecting multiplayer as well, me and my kids share a world on bedrock xbox one and when we logged in for the first time since the upgrade only the player who created the world (my son in this case) had their inventory and xp. Everyone appeared at world spawn too. Which was annoying as I was on on a explore of islands (we are on an island biome). Luckily a lot of my stuff was in a chest but I was in full armour and was carrying diamonds I had just found...
This bug has really made playing as multiplayer games a bit concerning not knowing if your going to join the world without xp and inventory. Currently we are dumping inventory into a chest before leaving just to be sure but it makes playing less fun.

This also happened to me. Nothing can be found for player 2 in any world. It likely has to do with MCPE-58640 in which they changed how player 2 is stored in memory.

No idea if there will be a response from mojang but my bug report was made as "resolved" because it duplicates this one. Can't help but think this makes their numbers look better for bug resolutions when actually it's just been hammered to an ongoing problem that seems to have raised its head in 2019 looking at the date above. It certainly doesn't look like we are going to get any joy here and who can say if it's going to happen again next time there's an update. You'd think that this would be an obvious but to test for of it's been ongoing for 2 years..?

This is happening to me too, and I had posted on a different bug that got "merged" as duplicate. All worlds, all 2nd through 4th split screen players join as if a new player. This kind of resolved as duplicate is actually industry standard practice. It's easier to track, prioritize, etc with one bug than two hundred similar bugs (with same root cause). We want a single bug with higher engagement and reporting of problems as that will raise the priority.
As for the two years thing... similar outcomes can be cause by different things in computer code. It sounds like with this update they were trying to solve something like this, but obviously errored. I wouldn't take the approach we'll get no resolution, but it may take some time, not just days or hours.

The problem definitely seems to be worse since the last update but my concern with them just lumping it into this old bug report is the right people might not know how bad it has become. I just hope they've noticed how broken it is, would be nice to get a response at least from Mojang to confirm they're aware of the new problems.

Agreed Ben at that last point, let us know they're really aware and working on it.

I submitted a help request ticket to Mojang and they told me they can only deal with account issues, and to submit a bug. I did submit a bug and they merged it to this one. There is also a thread on this within the Microsoft community as well. What is surprising is that this has been going on for a long time and they haven't dealt with this. It used to clear when resetting but after the most recent update, it's become even more of a major issue. I wonder what gives - it's super annoying and is a major detraction to playing the game. I think most split screen players are two kids or kid and parent, and it's especially frustrating for younger players. Here is the latest thread on Microsoft Community on this https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/xbox/forum/xba_gapp/minecraft-no-longer-saving-secondary-players-in/78ff5f83-d2db-41cd-95fd-dcbd5d880d6c?messageId=42986d4b-6345-4b9c-b187-071c34bb316f&page=1

I feel like completely quitting this game, I only enjoy playing with my boyfriend on splitscreen and we experienced that whenever I joined (on my own XBOX account) all my items and XP were lost. We had managed to fix this issue by quitting and re-opening the game. This time however nothing could get it to work. I lost 40 levels and all my enchanted weaponry. This is the furthest I've ever gotten without dying so I'm incredibly frustrated and will not be playing it again until it is fixed, I will also not be buying it for my sister who wants it until this bug is fixed.

To some other points earlier, I think the more people that submit bugs the better, it forces them to merge it to this one and ideally they get a sense how big of an issue it has become. This thread and the one on Microsoft Community were latent until this most recent update to 1.16.210.06

I updated my bedrock server to 1.16.210.06. The issue still persists.

Agreed – everyone should submit a bug so we can at least annoy the crap out of them until they fix it

Everyone go and enter bugs here: https://bugs.mojang.com/secure/Dashboard.jspa so they're forced to merge it to MCPE-55815
Then, everyone try to make them trending by mentioning it on twitter, to the following handles and hashtags:
@mojang
@mojangsupport
@mojangstatus
@minecraft
#minecraft
#mojang

It would be really cool if they could implement a way to roll back from an update on the XBox One. The bugs they fixed with this update can't be worse than the bug they've introduced that's stopped our family from playing at all.
At this point, there's a trust issue. Our family won't be spending any more time on this game if we can't rely on it to, you know, work...
Has anyone heard if this is being taken seriously? I saw a response to someone on the Microsoft forum where they pretty much told the guy that they were mostly focused on marketing and that he should try searching community forums.

Andrew, that would be really cool if you could roll back an update! As for the response on the Microsoft forum... I saw that. I think it's more that where he contacted is the XBox Live account team, really, whereas the proper place to go is here at the Mojang bug report. That said, their response should have been better and clearer, no question.

I am also having this issue. Provided is a link to the game file I am having this issue with:

It's been days and nothing has been done or said. Any updates?

We have this problem too. All progress lost. Our daughter is gutted because she can’t stand up her wolves in the main world we play. Now we don’t want to play minecraft as the whole point is we play together. Been our lockdown hobby. Have reinstalled, shutdown, reset the Xbox One, but this seems an issue since the update - as it’s same on all our worlds. Host is fine, secondary players come in at spawn - looks like an issue linking to Microsoft profile as player looks like a guest. We need our progress back. Now we can only play main world single player to keep progress.

Same here, all local games staring second and third live accounts with levels, inventory, respawn point and end chests reset .
this is only since the 1.16.210 update
playing on Xbox with live accounts for all three users.

Also the issue that player 2 data seems to be missing from every one of the saved games on my profile. Same with me on his.

I have this same issue - my sons now can't play on our realm on the Xbox using split screen.
Perhaps it's a way for Mojang to sell more copies...😛

Yes, my profile is removed from the other worlds we had too (i.e. a couple others in creative mode). Wondering if this is also worth bringing up in a Reddit thread as well to get more eyes

@Rich B , that is an excellent idea about reddit. I checked the rules on Reddit, and it turns out this is allowed. Hopefully if we throw a tragic enough story (which is nothing but the truth) we can get it popular. If someone would like to volunteer to create a truly grabbing post, that would be great. I think a video would do best, a video that grabs attention in the start by having someone throw away all their possessions, then transitioning to relating that to how our profiles were taken way completely. Post the link to the post here when you do, as there are many of us eager to get this solved.

A couple things I find a little confusing:
1- Some have reported this happening on Realms. If this is a Realms issue doesn't it completely defeat the entire purpose of realms? If I was on Realms I'd be demanding my money back immediately. Not just for this month, but for any month I paid. Not far fetched considering all progress from the past was also lost.
2- How is this still not gotten any response from anyone include a moderator of the forum. Is this isolated or 100% reproduceable?
3- Why is it merged with a similar thread when this is obviously a bug from the new release?
From my perspective this ruins the way a lot of people play the game. I'm shocked there isn't a bigger uproar.

@Steve Miller (Does the at symbol work?) this is a bug that has been before, and functions the exact same, just hurts more people now than before. I think the bug was caused for me during my beta usage, and when I reset Minecraft out of the beta and checked my old worlds I stumbled across this bug. Same thing, Xbox one x, 2nd-4th split-screen players had no inventory. In my case, it would bounce back and forth many times where every join was a toss up, and it was so saddening we haven’t really played since. And this was a long time ago.

I am also surprised there isn't more out there on this. I assume once one of the big bloggers like Stampy come across it, assuming they aren't too owned by Mojang, there might be more exposure.

This happened to my son about a year ago. He was always the second player to log in. When his original character ID was disassociated in some way, he lost all inventory and access to anything in the enderchest. At first, it was random, which character he would log in with next. At that point, he started playing Roblox instead. Don't blame him either. I am not nearly as excited about the upcoming updates due to this bug. I am also no longer purchasing anything associated with Microsoft because of this.

When others experience this, does the second player also lose the ability to interact with the world? I'm on xbox one local coop, and player 2 not only has lost their items and levels (and reset to the world spawn) but also cannot break blocks or open doors, press buttons etc...
Really needs a fix, we have been forced to completely stop playing Minecraft as a result of this bug

Sean - I had the same problem. It resets all of the players permissions when the second player joins. If the first player hits "start" to open the menu where you save and quit, the list of players currently on the world will be displayed on the top right of the screen. You have to select the 2nd, 3rd, and/or 4th player and change their permissions to allow use of chests, tools, and the like.

I believe this used to be an intermittent bug. We experienced it when playing split screen with guest logins. We resolved it initially by creating profiles for all of us and joining split screen with profiles. Now the bug is affecting any split screen user joining and it’s no longer intermittent. It’s ALL THE TIME!! My kids are so upset they don’t want to play anymore. Mojang please increase the priority of this bug and get it fixed ASAP.

I want to add to this problem by stating it's not just the main world me and my wife plays on that has this problem, it's anyworld she was on which is 4 different worlds all of her stuff is gone. Anything player data related has been deleted. If I go to manage save data on minecraft it says her profile is 3 KB where as mine is 300 MB. So somehow the update deleted any player data apart from mine which I'm the main account holder and first player in the worlds we play on.

It's the same for every account. If I'm the main player, anyone who was in my world before the update was reset after the update. I've also tried joining world's where I was the 2nd player and in that case, all of MY data was deleted. I'm pretty positive that for Xbox One players, any additional players added are "reset" because their account doesn't connect as shown in one of the attached photos above.

Correct. All of the second player accounts were deleted in all the worlds. We haven’t played since this bug appeared. Also I posted on Reddit on the Minecraft and Mojang bug subs and some said the following: “Fortunately, the ADO of the bug was touched by a Mojang dev and official game tester as recently as mid-February of this year, which is a good sign that they're aware of it and have some kind of priority for fixing it. Unfortunately, I believe that's all anyone here will be able to tell you, as the devs don't frequent this sub. If someone more knowledgeable has any corrections, feel free to correct me.”

Just posted about this too.
Won't load profiles on REALMS or LOCAL worlds, on Xbox.
My daughter, son, and I play on a realm. When we are the primary login, the player shows up where they left off and all their items. BUT, anyone joining starts as "new", no items, at spawn.
BUT when they login as the primary, all their PROFILE stuff is correct, has inventory, etc. Just the 2nd and 3rd players then become new.
Seems that the profile is saving somewhere when PRIMARY.
But can't find the profile when trying to join as secondary or tertiary. PLEASE FIX!!!!!

I wanted to be clear about something. For Realms, the second player inventory is NOT lost entirely. If the second player logs in first or solo, they have all their stuff, levels, etc... We flip flopped accounts and it's only when you log in second that your stuff appears missing and you are in the wrong place. This does not appear to be the same bug as originally reported. The only good news is that maybe all the stuff isn't gone permanently. I have no idea how this works on locally saved worlds though as there is no way to test logging in first vs. second.

This is what we are experiencing in realms as well. I suspect it's a different character ID. I opened a new bug report because this does appear to be a different issue, as it is now all-the-time, in addition to impacting realms logins. My report was scoffed at and it is now associated as a duplicate. We will be requesting a realms refund since it is now impacting us in realms.

Having the exact same issue. Sons try to join a world we have been playing in on the Xbox and the have no inventory or levels.
BUT one of my sons logged in via the Xbox app on his Android phone and his inventory and levels were there. Very odd.

@Kevin Phelps
Is that a local world or Realms? If the former then your experience with the Xbox app is encouraging as it suggests the progress can be recovered (I was becoming quite pessimistic about that after reading the earlier comments about profile size). Which Xbox app is that - I would like to have a look at my account and see what is recorded.

I really think the problem is only a problem for all but the first player.
We downloaded a backup of our realm to a my win10 machine and started a local game. The I got son #1 to join from the xbox, take off all his stuff and empty his endercheat into a normal chest. Then he logged out and son #2 was able to do the same so we atheist have all our stuff...
Strangely if either son went into third person view their skin was their skin... but when I viewed them on win10 machine one was Alex and one was Steve.
It really looks like the second player is joining with a new GUID- but the origional GUID still retains the inventory. What is not clear is if this new GUID is constant- I.e. if the player regularly logs in as the second player are they always new, or get the old new (
[media]?) Profile back?
My advice for anyone with a realm is backup, and join the world one by one and stash your stuff in a generic chest. If you do login as a second split screen player never leave anything in your inventory when you leave....
I'm cancelling my realm membership till this is cleaned up- good job both boys are back at school from tomorrow!

I’d like to try the Xbox app as well. As for Realms vs local, my issue is with local and I think most are, although it sounds like Realms has issues too. For mine it’s a local game for my family, that is saved in the cloud. We play two or three players, Xbox Gamepass, but it looks like the platform and software type don’t matter, it’s something on the Minecraft servers

So still more reported issues, and no resolutions. The run from spawn is not the issue, not even the levels, its the inventory we had on our persons and in our echests we would like back. Any assistance is appreciated.
I can confirm that even if you copied the world pre-update the problem still follows. I had a new and an older copy as I constantly back up the world, whenever player 2/3/4 would log in they would be back in spawn with no items, no echest items. This was on the main and copied files.
This happened on switch, xbox one and PC

@Chris Local world. It was actually the Minecraft app on his phone, which uses his Xbox profile.

Our issue is on Xbox One. Started with the recent update, I think on 3/10/21. My account is the main owner. Kids join as players 2,3,4. All kids data has been removed. Had to start fresh at world spawn point.
Since then, have been able to play and quit with maintained data a couple times. One daughter just bought Minecraft on the iPad and was able to log in and her original data showed up. She now plays on the iPad while we play on Xbox. Two other kids were bummed, but able to rebuild their resources that were lost. We now have them carry chests with them to dump all gear into prior to quitting. Definitely a pain and annoying. Hard to trust the game won't wipe them out again. Glad we're relatively new in the world.

People need to go on twitter en masse and write to @mojangsupport @latelagmc (moderator for this site) @stampylongnose (Minecraft influencer) @iBallisticSquid (Minecraft influencer) and #mojang and #minecraft, just copy/paste the link to this bug, reference it, whatever, etc. Not sure Reddit would get as much traction but it’s also encouraged. Mojang needs to be accountable to its customers and fans of Minecraft about the issue

Got this reply from @latelagmc on Twitter: “ Sorry, I'm just a moderator on the tracker. I don't really fix bugs or have a say in which ones they do. All I can say is that the team is aware of the reoccurence of this issue.” Sounds like they are aware, but not sure what the status is otherwise. Doesn’t hurt for others to bring it up on Twitter as well

This is also happening on the Xbox one platform. Players that were previously in the world enter and have nothing in their inventory. Problem started after the last update so it has been ongoing for over a week.

Ever since this most recent update my player 2 on local realm defaults player also. Xbox one platform

If anyone has a chance, go on the "Mojira" subreddit and make some comments. The mods there get very sensitive about commenting on bugs, even though that forum is specifically for bugs. Overall, I am having a hard time understanding why Mojira and some of the mods for its subreds, and on Twitter, and on here or wherever are so tightlipped and condescending about an issue like this. Minecraft is nothing without its fanbase, especially younger ones, and they are going to start losing them to other similar games that actually work, like Roblox. The lack of attention to this (~18 months old) bug that CRIPPLES gameplay - and maybe more importantly - lack of communication on it, is severely disappointing. It's not like they are working on a DARPA project, they could give updates. Isn't that what Jira is made for anyways? To track the lifecycle of an issue, and provide a means for communication on it? One would think so...

Occurred on my son’s account when he logged on as a 2nd player on our long term world (I’m primary, not realm, over 1 year of progress) when signing on split-screen on Xbox series X. Had him log-on so same world using his iPad (he already had the app prior to) and discovered his player info intact so I had him move his inventory and contents of his echest to a chest so that it’s not lost.

I found a way to get items back!
There may be another way that doesn't involve the use realms as a fix, but this worked to get the player's items back. Mind you, the issue still persists when logging in as player 2 but items can be recovered.
1) Upload game file to Realms
2) Send invite to player 2 from the Realms game menu
3) Log out of your profile
4) Log into player's profile who's items you with to recover (who will now be player 1)
5) Accept invite to Realm via Friends tab
6) Join the Realm ( Did not work the first 2 times. Kicked me to an error screen and back to the main menu. Worked the 3rd time)
7) Player should now be as was before profile was seemingly wiped. Now is a good time to remove everything from inventory and Ender Chest and store items into standard chest.
Items are now recovered!
Again.... The issue with disappearing profile whilst logging in as any player after the first player to join the world seems to persist. However, items are recovered.

Does Mojang triage these issues? I'm seeing page after page of {open} issues related to texture bugs or mob spawn irregularities and I wonder if they prioritize the issues that prevent game-play altogether. I understand that they only have so many programmers available to support a massively popular game but this issue affects more than just the folks who have already paid for the game. I was looking at getting a few copies of the Java version so we could to group play with mods like conquest but this is giving me pause.
That's too much to put into a game that has the same issues on a regular basis. This issue goes back at least to last may.

@Andrew I highly doubt they triage. Their lack of focus and subsequent lack of communication on this issue is pretty bad

I've seen a number of people, including myself, that have tweeted at Mojang's various handles, and I've yet to see any worthwhile replies to any of them. The only replies I've seen from them so far, is to refer them to this website and to file a report. It's really frustrating that they don't even seem to acknowledge that this is an issue.

thanks for the workaround! The only problems with that are,
you have to pay for the realms subscription
you have no xp.
But even then, its the only thing we can do until Mojang fixes this bug.

Added my own bug report last night, it was merged with this one less than 2 hours later. They are obviously well aware of the issue. I can't understand why this is not a priority fix, when Minecraft is a family/ couch co-op game for so many users.

This bug is reported fixed for split-screen players in the 1.16.220.52 Beta changelog:
Fixed non-guest split-screen players' lost data on Xbox (MCPE-55815)
https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360058166892
The fix will be included in the next full release, but no date can be given.

"The fix will be included in the next full release, but no date can be given."
Does full release mean 1.17, later this year?

Sincere thanks for the update @OcelotOnesie. I do think that although this critical bug "only" had 140 votes, there were dozens of other submitted bugs that merged to this one, so the upvotes and bug submissions were spread out.
I won't be joining the Beta, obviously, since my progress wouldn't show up there. However, my assumption is that the fix will restore the Player 2's progress before it was wiped out. According to Gamepedia, I think 1.17 is coming in the summer...and that is a valid question, whether we have to wait until 1.17 or is there another intermediate release that would fix it?

There is another intermediate release (1.16.220) that will fix this bug.

That's great news, thanks. Hopefully it's not going to be too long!

After updating to 1.16.220.52, I lost all of my items and levels and spawned at world spawn... I'm player 2 in a local split screen multiplayer game. How do I get my character and items back?? Previously, we could make player 1 Fully quit and close the game, and that worked. It's no longer working! How to fix this?

@Andie, do you have a mobile version of the game? If so, while player 1 logs in to play, you can also log in and find their game and log in under your account. Your items should be there. Can then put them in a chest or something and then join as 2nd player again. You will lose your exp, but all items should be saved in the chest.
The other option is waiting for the promised release and fix. No word on release date for that fix yet.

I don't have a mobile version, I only play on Xbox One, and only as player 2, split screen/local. I would be really happy if I could log in and put items in a chest, don't care about xp at all. It's just really lousy to lose all items, including ender chest items and all tools and armor. Are you saying I can do this if I go and get the mobile version?
Edit: I bought and installed the mobile version, and it still loaded me as new. Is there any way on Xbox to edit player save files?

So, this worked for my daughter with the same problem. Are you logged into your Xbox profile on the mobile version? We’re you always logged on to your Xbox account when playing on the Xbox? Is the Xbox on a solid internet connection? We were surprised, but when my daughter logged in on mobile, she has her items. When logging in on Xbox, all items gone. This has worked for others. Sorry if it didn’t work for you 😞

Yes, logged in on both, always logged in while playing, and the Xbox is in a solid connection. I think the update today overwrote my save file. Thanks for trying to help!

I found this issue in xbox one too. When another account tries to enter to the game , it appears in the origin of the map and without her inventory. The version I play is 1.16.210.

This issue is also present on the most recent release for xbox one.

The old "fix" of having player 1 fully quit and reload seems to work again, but anyone who loaded in as a new character and played long enough to auto save has lost their original saved character - levels, items, achievements, etc. Also, loading in player 2 from mobile does work, but the same applies. Make sure to have Player 1 Fully Quit and shut down the game, then load back up and have Player 2 join. If you're lucky, your previous save will still be intact! When logging Player 2 out, make sure to remove all items and gear and store it in a chest, and make sure to empty anything from your ender chest!

Not sure if the patch has been installed yet, but I logged in and all my progress as Player 2 is still gone. I’m all set with Minecraft. If the patch was installed it didn’t work to restore profiles

@RichB yeah, I had a notice of a patch this weekend when we opened Minecraft up on the Xbox one but it failed to ever load and when we eventually hit continue there was no change to multiplayer situation. Player 2 had no inventory or xp. All enchanted armour and weapons, gone. We are still on 1.16.210 according to the welcome screen.

The patch where they have fixed the Player 2 bug on xbox has not been released yet. It is still in Beta. The version is 1.16.220.52.

I have version 1.16.220.52 beta and it's still not working.

I can't say that I'm surprised...

Daniel is right, they haven't released 1.16.220, which is the release that should hopefully fix this bug. Someone mentioned that the quit and reload started working again, so I thought maybe it reverted back to that method instead of being completely resolved. Still waiting for 1.16.220. The only concern I have is that when I've logged in to check it (before even submitting a bug), that it's overwritten whatever progress I had before the last update, which wiped it out. Hopefully there's a way for the devs to restore an account and profile back to where it was before the last update came out

I have been playing the same split screen game as my wife on the Xbox for a few weeks now and have had no issues at a with the game until tonight I was unable to get past a loading screen when trying to join her in split screen. I restarted the Xbox several times and nothing seemed to work. All I got was the generating world page. Finally I contacted Xbox support and they instructed me to remove my profile off the Xbox and then sign back in again. I followed the directions and restarted the game several times before it finally let me back in. However when I signed in and joined the game my character was completely reset my inventory full of diamond tooks was gone and my character was back at initial spawn. Very disappointed that I have lost so much time and effort. I am not sure what information is helpful but the world name was KELLY & FANNING MINING CO. and my inventory was full of recently acquired mining resources and fully enchanted diamond tools. I think I was around experience level 23 at the time. Please help!

@Alec Edward If you didn't play on that new character, have her actually"Quit" the game, then reload the game and the save file, then join with your login, you should be able to recover your profile. Alternatively, you can join her game via mobile if you have that version. I know this sucks, I hope you get your profile back. Good. luck!

Does anyone know when the 1.16.220 update is coming out? Not 1.16.220.52, which is the beta, but the 1.16.220 patch that will supposedly fix this bug?

It's really not clear. I can't make much pattern from their release cadence for other updates.
However, it does look like they've released a beta for 1.16.230 on 2021-03-25.. which I guess might mean they've base lined 1.16.220 and won't be adding more to it, which might mean it's now pending a full release? I don't know...
All I know is that it's Easter now, my kids are at home, and they can't play split screen on the XBOX still (or, more correctly they can, but only one can save progress....)
I'm really surprised that there hasn't been more from Mojang on this. I reset my expectations for future issues.

It's working for me, as long as I have player 1 fully quit (on xbox, tap the menu button from the home screen while highlighting Minecraft, then go down to quit) and then reload the game. I can then join with my previous save.

It may be good to clarify how the issue is fixed - does it only prevent future instances? Will existing players with mistmatched player data regain their original data?
Since they have released a 1.16.230 beta, then I predict (not sourced) that 1.16.220 it will release within the next few days, or at least within a few weeks.

We have been having the same issue for a long time now. It's not the first time we've played the map since the update, it's been an ongoing issue now for quite a while everytime we log it. It doesn't seem to matter what's in the inventory from what we've tested. We are on bedrock on a Realm, we primarily play multiplayer via split-screen on the Xbox series X. First player no issue, it's second player who joins with an empty inventory and no XP, somewhere near the spawn point. We tested with full inventory, tested with putting everything except torches and fish in a chest, and still lost all XP and the torches and fish, but the stuff we put in the chest was still there/were able to see it.
If the 2nd player quits right away and then we close out minecraft and do single player on 2nd players account their XP and stuff is still there, but anyone else who joins the game has the same issue when joining. Seems to duplicate no matter what we change/do so far. If someone joins on splitscreen they have no XP and empty inventory. Big bummer since it's made our realm pretty unplayable for a long time now.
If it's helpful, our realm is pretty old, more than a year for sure, and has lots of stuff on it, so it's not a new world. Hopefully this can be fixed soon and would be happy to give more info if it helps. (I apologize if this is resolved or my comment is not new information/hard to tell since it says unresolved but also says fix version beta and hard to see all the comments, I can delete the comment if it's not needed).

It's still not fixed. Issue seems to be ignored and it's affecting way more people surely than those who are following this thread. Again yesterday we tried and 2nd player joined with no XP, no inventory. It means we all play separately rather than together and it's really taken away the joy of playing Minecraft for us as a family.

I downloaded the bedrock server update released today I think, 1.16.220.02 and updated the bedrock server. Earlier today the xbox client was not updated, but I just check and it is now updated to the same version.
I am HAPPY to report that for me anyways, the second join (split screen) on the XBOX issue is fixed. The second player was able to join and maintain their inventory and XP.
I also wanted to just let those know who run their own bedrock servers that you can use a tool created by FoxyNoTail that will created automated backups of your worlds. I use it on mine. There is a youtube video on how to install/run it as well. I'll post a link here. It definitely saved us a lot of grief with this bug.

Looks like my Xbox and iPad Minecraft apps just updated tonight. Unfortunately, looks like 2nd player accounts we’ve been playing during the last buggy release just got erased/reset. Also, can’t seem to log into the Xbox server game from the iPads after this release to see if their latest accounts are still intact. Hoping this is just a sync up delay across Xbox and mobile platforms, but has me worried the new update may have nerfed our latest efforts.
We did fire up an older game that we avoided after the prior release and all our accounts were there. Guessing this update recovered old data, but may have squashed recent 2nd player accounts that we’ve been using recently.

My Xbox a took the update and checked out the main world we had this issue on and both kids accounts were restored - armour, inventory and end chest contents wise l
We had avoided playing this world since the bug occurred.

I just started up the Xbox and our main worlds are restored now too - XP and inventory are back for secondary players and most importantly for my daughter - she can stand up her wolves! Delighted as we have a week's holiday next week and will be able to play in our world again - it's been a month so will seem like a treat. Hope this glitch doesn't recur - as notice the workflow on this issue hasn't been updated.

For the bug a month ago we worked out a work around which involved loading a backup and player 2 signing in, putting inventory in a chest. Signing out and saving. Player 1 signs in then player 2, P2 spawns at original spawn point, but they can then go and get all their stuff.
It worked great until this new update!! Player 2 signed in and spawned at where they should have been on previous update, oh and all their stuff was gone!! 5 items with mending on!!! Tried previous backups, same thing!! Didn't go back as far as before the other update, as we've been playing nearly every day since that other buggy update!!

I have Minecraft on our Xbox and was playing as a second character in my wife's world (split screen). The update that just happened caused the issue that it was resolving for others. My character that had a lot of experience and inventory is now at the world spawn with no experience or items.

The 1.16.220 release on April 6 caused this bug for us.
My family of four plays Minecraft in my son's world. He logs into his account and loads his world, then the rest of us join under our own Xbox accounts (no guest accounts).
After the 1.16.220 update, my son logged in with no issues, but the three of us logged in to find our experience points and inventory were completely gone - including the armor we were wearing.
We spent a couple hours grinding to get some of it back, then saved and quit to eat dinner. When we restarted later, the same thing happened - my son's character is intact, but our three characters are reset back to zero. Apparently it's repeatable. 😞

Chris, you said this so much better than I did. This is exactly what's happening to us as well. The game is unplayable (at least for anyone other than the primary player) because we keep losing our items and experience.

Chris / Jeremy - have you tried quitting out of Minecraft (Quit on the xbox home screen once you have saved and closed your game). Then ensuring all players are signed in to the xbox before you load up minecraft. I had found the error again after i posted saying it was fixed - but if I do this as above we were able to all join with XP and inventory restored. I really hope it sticks fixed as it is most annoying.

As a split screen offline player on bedrock I found that the 1.16.220 update had restored my inventory to that before the 1.16.210 update. However, all the grinding for netherite helmet and pickaxe had been lost as my inventory had been wiped from the 1.16.220 update and replaced by my old inventory before the 1.16.210 update. I wonder if anyone had the same issue.

Carol. Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I've done that, but I have still lost all of my items and XP.

As long as you don't play more than 1 session on the 'new' character file, you can still have player 1 fully quit (like go to the home screen, highlight minecraft, menu, quit) and then start the game back up, your saved character file will be restored. But if you play a second time on the 'new' character, you'll only restore back to the previous one. I still do this before starting every split screen session. I still put all items into a chest before logging out now, just in case. I've been wiped entirely twice; the loss of full netherite with all mending armor and tools was especially harsh.

my inventory resets every time the game updates as well. when it updated to 1.16.210, i lost my xp and payer position as well. when it updated to 1.16.220, i kept my player position and xp, but lost my inventory.
i was keeping everything valuable in my inventory because of stealing issues in the realm i was playing in.

Just gonna leave this comment for someone that might help! This recent update reloaded my wife's previous save with all the netherite gear and items she was holding when the last update occured and wiped her. Foreshadowing this event, we have been storing everything in her inventory in a shulker box before quitting out! NOT an ENDER CHEST. Now she has all her netherite gear back from the last update and we have the stuff she's been using the last month saved in a shulker as back up! People who aren't doing this every play session are risking all their progress! PLEASE START SAVING YOUR ITEMS AND ARMOR IN CHEST OR SHULKER BOXES! Don't end a session with anything of value on any persons inventory with the exception of player 1.

Make sure, if you haven’t done what was just said about never leaving things in inventory, you get them shulker/chested before this update, or your “blip” inventory will forever be lost. Mojang had to bring people’s inventories back, but they tore down the new ones in the process. Not much else they could do really.

Oliver, I’m having your same issue. Just re-equipped my kids with items. Lost Diamond gear. Luckily my son (5y old) put all the Netherite away in a chest. He likes to carry all the valuables in his inventory 🙄

This issue went away for me for a while but started happening again. I am also seeing this in a world we just created this last week. We basically have to quit and restart the game until the 2nd player's correct inventory loads. Behind the scenes, it seems like Minecraft is storing 2 different save points for the 2nd player, and the game chooses which one to load. This is extremely cumbersome and tedious to play with. Please, please fix.

Workaround note:
I agree with one of the comments above so far. The trick is to ensure both local players are signed into the Xbox before launching Minecraft. If you've already loaded Minecraft, quitting it, and ensuring both players are signed into Xbox before reloading Minecraft seems to work as well. So far this seems to consistently load the same save point/inventory/level etc.
If you need to get your items back from "the other" save point, make sure the 2nd player isn't signed into the Xbox when player 1 launches Minecraft. Then add the 2nd player, including signing in, after the 1st player has loaded the world. You can then move your inventory into a chest.
This seems to work consistently and is repeatable in my testing thus far. We may have done it this way about 10 time now.

@J9 , extremely useful workaround, I will try that and see if it helps soon. Also, FYI, every ~20 minute interval in which you edit a comment gives an email, so try to keep the edits down to one single full edit. The edits you made and the comment you gave was (hopefully) very helpful though, thank you!

Just to add my experience. My loss of items was caused by the update. Both of us were signed into the Xbox before launching Minecraft, and we still ran into the same issue (even after closing and reloading 30-40 times). It sounds like both being signed is is working for some (which is awesome), but it did not work for me

This is impacting my Bedrock MineCraft server for my son who plays from his Android tablet. Almost every time he logs off/on, he is treated as a new player with no experience or items. He stores his gear in a chest every time but it is frustrating to lose it all if he gets disconnected and to lose the experience every time. He does NOT have an Xbox Live ID/xuid. This does not affect me and I also play primarily from android (phone), but I DO have an Xbox Live ID.
Update: I tested a few scenarios and this is what happens from an Android device running PE without an Xbox Live account:
-Left the server world and rejoined w/out closing app. Player is NOT reset.
-Left the server world, closed the app, and restarted/rejoined. Player IS reset.
-Left the server world, kept PE open on android and restarted the actual bedrock server on our server computer, rejoined the world and player is NOT reset.
-While in server world, restarted application abruptly. Player IS reset.
Conclusion: Closing the Minecraft PE app appears to be when the player is reset. Even bouncing the server itself doesn't cause the problem as long as Minecraft PE remains open on the Android device.
Note: Clients and server are all running version 1.16.221
Update: I have also noticed that the manifest in the worlds/myworld/db directory is growing larger. There are now over 100 "server_player_blahblahblah" instances and my son and I are the only ones who play on this server on our LAN. It seems it is creating a new entry for him each time. I've also tested from other android devices and the findings above hold consistent, so it is not just his tablet.

Hi, we’ve been experiencing this issue on our Xbox one bedrock worlds for over a year. The issue is intermittent but more recently (after last update) player 2 seems to have two save points that load randomly. We pop everything player 2 has into a chest as a work around. But we just reached enderchests and now realise that they are linked to the random load so that’s frustrating. Please fix this. We use MS accounts for both players. Thank you.

This bug is happening on our Xbox one bedrock worlds as well during multiplayer on local Xbox. If the first player stays in the game, the second player can save and exit with no issues. Once the first player exits, the game resets the second, and all stats and inventory are lost. We have tried several scenarios, and once the first player exits, the second one is always reset.
This challenge used to happen a long time ago when multiplayer was only possible with a guest player. Every time the guest player came back after the primary player exits the world, all of their inventory and stats are gone. It enhanced gameplay when multiple players could work together and collect experience points and keep their inventory.
I would not recommend any friends or family members to buy Minecraft for their children with this bug as it would only cause problems. This bug also presents a barrier for my wanting to invest financially in buying Minecraft items, downloads, world, or realms when I can not play with my son without one of us losing our experience and our inventory.
Considering the impact of the playing enjoyment and the fact that this bug has been around for over a year, it is criminal that MOJANG has not fixed it. This bug needs a higher priority!!!

On the Xbox One Bedrock edition we encountered this issue a few times. For us it seems to be related to connectivity. If the xbox is offline or having connection issues the people connecting are treated like guests. The lose all their stuff when they save and exit. Only player 1 retains all this things on rejoining. When we made sure we were online and had a good connection the game behaved properly with players joining and loading properly. I don't know if this is an exception or already known.

Does someone know the 'DID' number in the profile? It always changes when I open MinecraftPe, i think it's a identifier, so the server cannot distinguish me and make me a new player.

Just got Minecraft on the Switch a couple weeks ago and experiencing the same issue, primarily with Player 2 in a local multiplayer game. We save the game and quit but when we start back up, Player 2 signs in and everything is reset for Player 2. Player 1 and Player 2 each have local Switch profiles. Generally, Player 1 retains skin, items and experience, most of the time. Player 2 almost always resets completely except for the spawn location. Sometimes Player 2 retains items but skin is gone every time.

Exact same issue this morning, livid - this has never happened before. First world with 1.17

Just happened to us on our new 1.17.2 world.
I play on PC and host the world, a player accidentally turned off their Xbox, went to re-join and they were treated as a new player. Has only happened to one player (player 2, and not me the host or the other player in the world playing on PC like myself) so far.
The player respawned at the original spawn point, not at their bed.
But we have noticed also that my skin appears on my screen only, to everyone else I am Steve. Could be unrelated but thought I'd mention it.

I am facing a similar problem. I am the host of the world on Xbox and have a friend that joins via lan. When I join all my items are gone. The one inconsistency with others problem is I do respawn next to my bed. This could be because spawn is fairly far away? I was alive and full health upon logging out, so there is no way I died. My freind that joins via lan on windows edition has never lost their stuff, so it is potentially Xbox related based on what Amy^ said. This world was created pre 1.17, and the problem has started post 1.17, happening twice today. I am unsure if this should be reported as a separate bug due to it appearing to be related to the new update and the fact that I did respawn by my bed, but figured I would start here.

I have the EXACT same problem as the commenter Jane Austen from July 13, 2021 at 3:15 AM. I and a friend play split screen, and I lose my inventory, but he does not. I spawn next to my bed, so I just put a chest there and keep my entire inventory there before we log off for the night, and I try to use all of my levels before we end the session so it's not wasted.

This happens to me. I play side-by-side with my son on an xbox series X. I join the realm and he joins my game. He sometimes gets kicked out due to parent controls and when he rejoins, he spawns at the world spawn with no inventory.
I have found a fix, though! Save and quit and then exit minecraft entirely (click the xbox button on the controller, move cursor to minecraft, then hit the list button on the middle and choose quit. If I reconnect to the realm and he joins my game, he gains his inventory back and spawns in the correct place.
Hope this helps!

10-8-21 and other dates before that i think 10-7 and 10-6? around mid-day
I was playing a multiplayer survival server on the same wifi with my brother and after many many weeks of having the server I suddenly lost all items in my inventory and my levels and got sent back to spawn, though chest items remained. BTW this is not my world and this has not happened to my brother. It was about the 3rd time it happened when I went over to a map room and took a map off the wall and then my game crashed and I still cant get on the server and everytime it crashes since I took the map off the wall, and yes ive tried updating and restarting, still havent tried reinstall tho. Also the items in my inventory on one of the times I lost it all were as follows starting from top down and going from left to right
3 wood pressure plates

Had this happen to my sister today. I hosted the world from my PC, she joined from the Switch. When she exited the game and came back later all her stuff was gone and she was back at the initial spawn point. This has happened in two different worlds I've created, and it seems animals she's tamed, like cats, don't recognize her anymore either.

Happened to me twice in a row so far on my Nintendo Switch on 1.19.20. After the two occurrences I have only rejoined once more, but that time nothing went wrong.
The first time:
My inventory was probably fully empty or had an item or two before it happened
I respawned at world spawn, with nothing as if I had never joined (This might be because my inventory was already empty), whereas I have joined many times before without issue
My skin changed back to a default (Alex) (This has happened before though, so probably not related)
The second time:
My inventory was filled to the brim before it happened
I respawned in a Nether portal, nowhere near world spawn (which by my intuition seems weird, since the issue is caused by a new player folder, right? How does it remember my location but not my items then?)
I had simply joined my friends world
It was survival and the difficulty was either easy or peaceful

When looking at the player .dat files before (when server player had their in game progress) and after they log out then back in (all progress gone) I notice that two new dat files are created for the server player : server_(string of numbers).dat and (string of numbers).dat. The old server file is still there showing all in game progess contained in it. The old (string of numbers).dat file no longer links to the old server file but to the new sever file, as well it has a tag that links to the new (string of numbers).dat file. In short all reference to the old player data with progress is lost but the file is still there
UPDATE
Appears to happen when a server player logs out of their account then back in then joins the game.

To any mods seeing this: can you please try to confirm or deny this is what is happening in MCPE-165281. I posted it over a week ago and still it is untouched. It seems similar to this but I’m not sure.

First time: My invetory was almost full (I believe) I had two fully enchanted netherite pickaxes (One silk touch, the other fourtune) and a (I believe. Might have only been sharpness IV)fully enchanted netherite sword. I had full netherite armour, all enchanted, but no idea to what extent, though I can provide some of the enchantments on some of them, if needed. I may have had two tridents (not sure I may have put them in a chest before hand) one with unbreaking III, mending, impaling V, and loyalty III named FORKer and another one only enchented with Riptide III. I had somewhere around 22 levels. There was a shield with unbreaking III and mending. I'm sure there were a bunch of other misc stuff I had in my invetory but I don't remember. This happened to me yesterday FEB 21st 2023 after updating minecraft preview. I don't know if regular minecraft had auto updated, but I assume it did. I spawned at world spawn, just like any new player would. It was a multiplayer world on Xbox One, without Xbox LIve though. All of my animals that were tamed to be specifically were now untamed. They still would be sitting, or have their names and collars, but I couldn't stand them at all. I have yet to try and create duplicate, because I assumed it was a one time thing. I also have the seed if needed.
Reply from @unknown:
It sounds like you experienced MCPE-57431 / MCPE-95859, not this bug.

I am also having this issue with my kids. I am hosting a BDS on my PC, while they play split screen on the Nintendo Switch. We've had this world for a couple of weeks now, and had no issue until the other day when one of my daughters tried to join after the 1.19.63 update. The Switch updated automatically without issue. I had been playing for a few hours when it went live, and she could not join the game until I saved, exited, and updated. The update did not apply to my account automatically in spite of reloading the launcher and switching to my Java worlds several times - I had to go to the Microsoft Store and force the update manually. After updating, the Switch started giving us errors messages saying that both of my kids had been signed out of their Microsoft accounts (which wasn't true), that their console data didn't match the cloud data, and that there were errors in their save files. I went to the home screen on the Switch and force-uploaded their console data to the cloud, after which point everything seemed fine that session. However, every time they've tried to join our BDS game since then, it's overwhelmingly loaded them in as new characters. It is also (rarely) loading them into their own Switch-saved single-player games (in both survival and creative) as new characters. Most of the time they load in correctly, but probably one out of every 10 loads is as a fresh character. On the flip side, every once in a while, it will connect them to our BDS as their actual characters, but there is no discernible pattern as to when or why it finds those characters instead of loading them to the new ones that appear to have been created after the update - it's almost always loading them into the BDS server as a fresh character.
It is not always loading them in to brand new characters every single attempt. They've moved those characters around while we tried to troubleshoot this, and they reload into those new characters most of the time now, not another brand new character at every join. Every once in a while though, it will generate another brand new character at the spawn point for them. I'm not tech savvy enough to understand how to pull Bedrock files out of my PC but am happy to share mine if someone explains how to, and it might help.

Multiplayer session hosted on Windows 10, other user on Switch. Happens frequently, but on the last occasion, on 1.19.63, same world, we had a small insight that might be a coincidence or might not.
When the other player spawned in empty, we decided we wouldn't bother with trying to reset and just went ahead playing anyway. Had a brief power outage so we were forced to connect again. When we came back, they had the original inventory again. Disconnect again, come back, and they have the inventory they were playing with short term. I know in Java, save files have player.dat files that store info about player inventory, health, etc. It seems like they have two files running in parallel, one from the original sessions, and one from the short session, with different inventories and locations. Like some kind of alternate universe it would seemingly randomly pick one or the other to load for the switch player from the host.
We were resetting trying to get it to load the correct inventory, when they randomly thought to change their skin back to an older one they had used when we played before, and it loaded the correct inventory. Is there some player ID system in place that helps to load inventory from the save file in multiplayer that is affected by a player's skin? Or is it merely coincidence? would upload but world exceeds max upload size.
edit: tested again, happens to host as well, definitely linked to skin changing!
edit 2: MCPE-48606 seems to be a description of this bug, as related to skin changing. However it was incorrectly marked as a duplicate of an unrelated issue, seemingly based on a quick skim. Based on accounts of pets no longer recognizing owners, I believe that changing your skin causes the multiplayer host to not recognize you as the same user from the last session.

Problem: My friend1 had the same problem he was playing on friend2's world on his PS5 friend2 also has PS5 anyways he went to a creative world to test redstone build before building it and join joined back at that bug happened.
Fix: My friend1 fixed it by restarting the game it might not work for all but give it a try

I have had this issue 5 times, it always happens after a game crash and rarely happens to the world owner (I have only been wiped once). Also it never seems to happen in creative.

Believe this bug or similar has happened on my world -
I (Nintendo Switch), host of multiplayer game, left the game after me and friend (MCPE) had been playing for an hour or two.
Today, we rejoined and his whole game, not just inventory had been reset -
He spawned at world spawn, not his set spawn, with no items in his inventory.
Really annoyed, hope this bug gets fixed soon! So far, we haven’t found any fixes either😞
Update: We spent a few days getting all the stuff back - happened again.
Once again, all things gone, spawn reset. Its been years and it still hasn’t been fixed?
Great job there Mojang.

Honestly, I really don't understand why this bug hasn't been fixed yet. Like, it's actually been YEARS now. I understand it not being #1 priority for some time but wow this has been a problem for a very long time now.

This bug has occurred multiple times to my friends who are connecting to a multiplayer game which i have been hosting this is all in 1.20.0. and 1.20.1
The bug has wiped my Friends inventory and EXP when they login and they login at world spawn. this has happened to all of them at least once but it hasn't happened to me ( i think this is because im hosting the world vs the friends are joining it ).
I down graded the game version from 1.20.1 to 1.20 and the bug has seemed to go away but its unknown why its caused and its seemingly random so this is hard to know for sure.

I'm having this issue as well as we speak. My wife plays this game with me and every time she loads in, her inventory gets wiped clean and she spawns with no exp. My items are intact, but the issue only affects player 2 during multiplayer. This did not happen before the updates and is happening now.

I had the same Problem. I have hosted a multiplayer game of Minecraft for Windows and my two sons joined my world on local LAN. Last Sunday, we all logged of. This Sunday we all logged in again and both of my sons had no items in inventory or ender chests and they spawned at world spawn. We were all on version 1.20.41 and I have no mods installed, just pure standard world. Then I reloaded a backup of older version of this world from beginning of this month and as they logged in there, same happened. The update was some time ago and we definitley played already, so its not direclty due to the update. And it has been the same world, as I only play on this world for years now. Loosing this world would be a tragedy.

(Switch/Realms) This has happened to me twice in the past month, most recently just now. I keep losing nicely enchanted tools and armor! How do I recover what is lost? Mojang, can you recover my stuff?

I'm having the same problem on PC joining a friends game on Ps5. The first time it happened I joined and I was back at spawn with no items or XP. I started playing on this "2nd player save" for a while. I think it saved properly once but the next time I saved and logged in with the items I originally lost. He was playing offline a bit. I had tamed wolves that weren't linked to the "1st save" I couldn't make them sit/stand either. It keeps switching between these saves. We tried everything we could think of to try and switch it back to the previous save but it seems random, yet happens very often.

I'm experiencing similar things but might have a slight nuance to the case. I was on a multiplayer server with Bedrock and decided i needed to check on Java how i built something on a different server, then while i was logged in to java on that different server I logged out of Bedrock. Closed the java client. So they were both on simultaneously for a period there.
When I then came back later on Bedrock to try and connect to that initial server my inventory was cleared and i was at spawn. I then remembered i had the same thing a few weeks ago and i'm pretty positive i then also briefly had the Java client running.
I've tried reproducing it at will but I can not seem to. I'll see if i can get logs from the host if i can i will add them.

I can provide my world. Should I upload the whole folder zipped or do you prefer to only get certain files?

As of 2024 I have a similar case. Inventory reset and exp reset, completely seen as a different player with the lan icon. Me and my girlfriend play on a world (bedrock edition of course) and we, one day, log in (it was around 10 days ago and the entirety of her inventory and exp was completely gone. Not only that but she spawned at the world spawn and i was seeing her with a completely different skin than the one she was seeing herself as. I spoke with the help center via email and said to write here cause they couldn't do anything. So i wrote a post in here (MCPE-186526) but the team updated it as resolved and nominated it as a duplicate of this one.
I hope that, even though it's a year later, they are still considering this problem and not just straight don't care about it anymore. For any more info that I may have forgotten just ask.

This happened to me recently In my friends realm and it was quite frustrating as I had just obtained netherite and took a break from that realm only to discover my inventory was wiped and I was sent all the way back to spawn. It's like the game thought I was an entirely new player. (Comment copied here from MCPE-164765)

Having this issue on XBox Series X. Multiplayer split screen, not using a server. Have played for years like this and never had an issue. Played once offline around the time of the update. Have had issues ever since.

I updated the game version to 1.21.80.03 logged into a friend's server and the inventory items were all gone and I was on spawn as if I had logged in from a new account if I had died I would have been reborn at home since I was spawn at home
