Join friends world and get treated as a new player.

Me and my friend have had this world for about 5 months and when I decided to join it today I spawned in World Spawn with none of my stuff, only a empty Locator Map and the Bonus Chest was right next to me. So basically the game is treating me like a new player. I'm positive I didn't die because I should've just spawned in one of my beds but this this is different. Is there anything I can do because we settled down 14,000 blocks away and I had fully enchanted items.
